Nearly 20 key franchised and independent retailers participated in the evaluation, fitting the tyres on various company vehicles, including popular models like the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, and Isuzu D-Max. This extensive testing ensured the tyres were thoroughly vetted on both paved roads and challenging terrains across South Africa.
One standout result from the test phase included a vehicle that traveled nearly 27,000 km on predominantly gravel roads, providing Goodyear with valuable insights into the tyre’s performance and resilience. Retailers rated the tyres on a scale from one to five, considering various criteria such as traction on gravel, handling under wet conditions, performance on deep sand, road noise, and tread durability.
The Wrangler Duratrac RT achieved impressive scores, including an average of 4.5 for gravel road performance and wet road handling, and 4.3 for tread durability. Its effectiveness on tarred roads was particularly noted with an average score of 4.6, while it also scored well for road noise suppression and ride comfort, with scores of 4.1 and 4.4 respectively.
The overwhelming feedback from retailers was positive, with a majority affirming they would recommend the Wrangler Duratrac RT to their customers. They cited the tyre’s robust performance and competitive pricing as key factors. Notable endorsements came from representatives at Tiger Wheel & Tyre, Tyremart, and Hi-Q, who highlighted the tyre’s durability, quiet ride, and reliable performance across diverse conditions, including gravel and wet surfaces. Both Tyremart and Hi-Q specifically recognized the Duratrac RT as the best value in its category, thanks to its three-ply sidewall construction.
Produced at Goodyear’s Kariega facility in the Eastern Cape, the Wrangler Duratrac RT is designed as a 50/50 on/off-road tyre, available in 15 sizes ranging from 15 to 19 inches. With its robust build and aesthetic appeal, the tyre is ideally suited for modern off-road vehicles and their enthusiasts.
