Land RoverSouth Africahas a longstanding relationship with the South African Red Cross Society (SARCS) and recently invited Red Cross representatives to attend its Land Rover Experience training day in order to further equip the team with valuable off-road driving skills.
Land Rover’s partnership with the International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC) and Red Crescent Societies forms part of an integrated approach to sustainability. IFRC is one of Land Rover’s six Global Humanitarian & Conservation Partners, set within Land Rovers’ sustainability framework called ‘Our Planet’.
In 2010, IFRC and Land Rover launched a three-year partnership entitled ‘Reaching Vulnerable People Around The World’. The global intiative provides support for 15 Red Cross and Red Crescent programmes including Austria, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom, the United States of America and South Africa.
Utilising Land Rover’s capable vehicles, the Red Cross is able to provide valuable support to communities in even the most remote location.
“”Thanks to Land Rover SA’s generosity, we have been able to use these vehicles during our disaster relief operations. Last year SARCS had to provide relief operations to communities affected by tornados that struckLimpopo,Free StateandGauteng.”
“The Land Rover Discovery’s allowed us to access remote areas that would have been hard to reach if it were not for these vehicles, ”said the SARCS Acting Secretary General, Winnie Ndebele.
Land Rover’s international accredited Land Rover Experience centres provide world class training that will ultimately aid the SARCS in assisting the public and communities in need.
“Land Rover’s association with the International Federation of the Red Cross dates back to 1954, when Land Rover in the UK supplied a long-wheelbase Series 1 to the British Red Cross for use in Dubai as a mobile dispensary.
“We are pleased to support the Red Cross in their initiatives in South Africa and hope that by providing them with valuable 4×4 driving techniques they will be even better placed to aid those in need,” said Kevin Flynn, Managing Director of Jaguar Land Rover South Africa
The IFRC and Land Rover partnership has seen the company provide over £4.7 million in support since 2007.
Land RoverSouth Africais currently offering 4×4 SUV drivers a complementary opportunity to improve their on- and off-road driving skills though its Land Rover Experience training centres. The offer is open to anyone driving a 2005 or later year-model 4×4 SUV.
