- Top SA celebs cycle out healthy smoothies for charity in the 2015 Sasfin Cyclethon in aid of HospiceWits and Smile Foundation

A total of 26 South African celebs are springing into action for a good cause this spring, and putting pedal to the metal at the Sasfin Cyclethon in support of HospiceWits and Smile Foundation. In a tasty twist, the celebs will be making smoothies for the public on their custom-made stationary cycling bikes during the Cyclethon, which takes place from 07:00 on Sunday, 6 September 2015, at the Piazza at Melrose Arch.
For six hours, the celebs will be in the hot seat as they power four ‘smoothie bikes’ (connected to kitchen blenders) to crush and blend together ice and a selection of fresh fruits to make the most delectable, healthy drinks for their fellow participants. These specially-designed stationary cycling bikes have been generously provided by Discovery Health.
Celebs who have pledged to feel their muscles burn while we watch the smoothies churn include Maps Maponyane, DJ Milkshake, Jason von Berg, Harry Sideropoulos, Natalie du Toit and Danny K, who is also a KIA brand ambassador. Members of the public are invited to join the cyclethon and can enter beforehand at www.ticketpro.co.za, or at the venue on the day.
As in previous years, the event promises to be one filled with fun for the whole family. There will be live entertainment on the day, various prizes to be won and of course, the opportunity to meet some of South Africa’s best-loved celebrities. In addition, you could also drive away in a brand new KIA Picanto worth R120 000, sponsored by KIA Motors South Africa, a long-standing sponsor and supporter of Smile Foundation. Raffle tickets for the KIA Picanto cost only R100.
“This wonderful, feel-good family event has become an annual highlight on the Melrose Arch calendar. This year it promises to be even more exciting, as celebrities use the stationary cycling bikes to power our smoothie blenders. Who wouldn’t want to enjoy a refreshing smoothie together with their favourite celebrity made in such a novel way? And the best part is, the money raised goes to giving South African children with facial anomalies the gift of a smile,” says Hedley Lewis, Finance and Fundraising Executive of Smile Foundation.
“Money raised for HospiceWits will go towards the continuation of early childhood learning for 93 orphans and vulnerable children of our patients in Diepkloof, Soweto” Joy Ruwodo, Marketing and Fundraising Manager of HospiceWits.
Enter online at www.ticketpro.co.za or get down to the Piazza at Melrose Arch early on the day to register and book your spot. Entries cost just R150 per bike per hour, with bikes powered by health partner, Planet Fitness. The Cyclethon runs from 07:00 to 13:00.
