Škoda has once again raised the bar with the latest iteration of its iconic Octavia vRS, the flagship model of the Octavia range. The newly updated vRS, available from 14 August 2024, stands as the most powerful production Octavia ever, boasting a significant power increase and a host of new features. Alongside this, Škoda introduces a new diesel-powered SportLine model, further expanding the options within the popular Octavia lineup. This article delves into the key updates, performance enhancements, and design refinements that make the 2024 Octavia vRS and SportLine models stand out.
A Powerhouse on Wheels: The New Octavia vRS
At the heart of the new Octavia vRS lies a revised 2.0 TSI four-cylinder petrol engine, now generating an impressive 265PS, a 20PS increase over its predecessor. This engine, derived from the same EA888 family as the one used in Škoda’s championship-winning Fabia RS Rally2 car, delivers not only increased power but also enhanced torque, with peak figures reaching 370Nm. This power is efficiently transmitted through a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission, enabling the vRS hatch to accelerate from 0-62mph in a mere 6.4 seconds, while the estate version follows closely at 6.5 seconds.
Despite the enhanced performance, the Octavia vRS remains remarkably efficient, achieving a WLTP combined fuel consumption of 40.8mpg for the hatch and 40.3mpg for the estate. This blend of power and efficiency is further complemented by a VAQ electrohydraulic differential lock, which optimizes grip and ensures the car handles corners with precision and control.
Striking Design and Advanced Technology
The 2024 Octavia vRS doesn’t just excel in performance; it also makes a bold statement with its design. The exterior features restyled front and rear bumpers, a black radiator grille surround, and gloss black trim that accentuates its sporty character. The striking 19-inch Elias anthracite alloy wheels further enhance its aggressive stance. For the estate variant, black roof rails come as standard, adding to its practical yet stylish appeal.
Inside, the vRS is equally impressive, with a bespoke Design Selection interior dominated by black accents. The cabin features a sporty three-spoke multifunction leather steering wheel, aluminium pedal covers, and sports seats with contrast red stitching and the vRS logo etched into the backrest. These seats offer electrically adjustable lumbar support and a massage function, ensuring comfort during even the most spirited drives.
Technologically, the new vRS is equipped with a large 13” infotainment system and a 10” Virtual Cockpit. Additional options include a head-up display, fast-charging USB-C ports for front and rear passengers, and a wireless charger with active ventilation. Standard features like an electrically operated boot with a virtual pedal, Keyless entry and start/stop, and blind spot detection round off the extensive list of equipment.

Expanding the SportLine Range
In addition to the vRS, Škoda has expanded the Octavia lineup with a new diesel variant within the SportLine range. The new 2.0 TDI 150PS engine offers a balance of sporty design and impressive efficiency, achieving a WLTP combined fuel consumption of 60.6mpg for the hatch and 59.9mpg for the estate. This model, like its petrol counterparts, comes with a seven-speed DSG gearbox as standard.
The SportLine models are distinguished by their 18-inch Vega Aero black alloy wheels, metallic paint, and gloss black trim. The interior features sports seats, a black headlining, and carbon-effect door inserts, maintaining the sporty theme throughout. Available in both hatch and estate forms, the new SportLine models offer versatility without compromising on style or performance.
Škoda’s 2024 updates to the Octavia vRS and SportLine models mark a significant evolution in both performance and design. The enhanced power output of the vRS, combined with its refined aesthetics and advanced technology, solidifies its position as a leader in the hot hatch segment. Meanwhile, the new diesel SportLine variant expands the appeal of the Octavia lineup, offering an efficient yet sporty option for a broader range of customers. With order books now open, these models are set to attract enthusiasts and practical drivers alike, continuing Škoda’s legacy of delivering vehicles that excel in both form and function.
