Milton Keynes, 2 July 2025 – Škoda has reaffirmed its position as a powerhouse in the automotive world by securing four major category wins and the prestigious Car of the Year title at the 2025 Auto Express New Car Awards. Leading the charge is the all-new Elroq, which not only claimed Best Mid-size SUV but also earned the ultimate accolade: Auto Express Car of the Year 2025.
Škoda’s remarkable sweep underscores the brand’s breadth of talent across its line-up, with the Octavia, Superb, and Kodiaq also taking home top honours in their respective segments. This milestone marks the fifth time a Škoda model has been named Car of the Year by Auto Express, cementing the Czech marque’s reputation for delivering practical, innovative, and value-driven vehicles.
Elroq: Electrifying Excellence
The newly launched Elroq—Škoda’s second vehicle built on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform—made an immediate impact by claiming Best Mid-size SUV and the overall Car of the Year title. The judges were impressed by the Elroq’s blend of everyday usability, clever packaging, and compelling value proposition.
“It offers impressive performance and all of the practical touches that Škoda is now famous for,” said the Auto Express test team. “An SUV-sized car for hatchback money, the Elroq is impressively spacious compared with similarly priced alternatives.”
Delivering a dynamic yet comfortable drive, the Elroq is a significant step forward in Škoda’s electrification journey—appealing to both families and environmentally conscious drivers alike.
Octavia: Family Favourite, Reinvented
The Octavia added yet another accolade to its already impressive trophy cabinet by being named Best Family Car 2025. A cornerstone of the Škoda range, the Octavia continues to resonate with families seeking a car that offers space, comfort, and unmatched value.
“Few family cars offer this much space, let alone combined with such a comfortable driving experience,” noted the road test team.
A consistent award-winner, the Octavia previously claimed the Car of the Year and Family Car of the Year titles in 2021, and the Estate version took top honours in 2021 and 2022—further reinforcing its legacy.

Superb: The Estate Standard-Bearer
Following its 2024 triumph, the Superb once again claimed the title of Best Estate Car, showcasing Škoda’s continued mastery of practical yet premium motoring. The latest generation brings enhanced hybrid options and refined cabin ergonomics, offering a compelling mix of efficiency, comfort, and design.
“The Superb Estate delivers on space, quality and cleverness just as strongly as the previous model,” said Auto Express. “It covers all the bases a family car buyer looking for something with additional practicality could want.”
For those seeking a capable family car that doesn’t follow the SUV route, the Superb Estate remains a benchmark.
Kodiaq: Large SUV Leadership
Rounding out Škoda’s trophy haul, the Kodiaq successfully defended its crown as Best Large SUV, thanks to its robust design, seven-seat versatility, and refined driving dynamics. Building on the success of its predecessor, the second-generation Kodiaq offers a class-leading 2,035-litre boot, improved interior quality, and intelligent features throughout.
“It builds on the proven formula of the original model,” said the judges. “It’s spacious, efficient and features plenty of clever touches.”
A Standout Year for Škoda
Auto Express Editor Paul Barker summed up the brand’s achievement:
“It was another fabulous year for Škoda at the Auto Express New Car Awards, picking up four class wins as well as the big prize of Car of the Year for the brilliant new Elroq. Škoda is building great cars no matter what segment you’re shopping in.”
Škoda’s 2025 accolades reaffirm its commitment to practical innovation, electrified performance, and customer-focused design—solidifying its role as one of Europe’s most respected car brands.
