Milton Keynes, 27 January 2026 – The Škoda Elroq has added another prestigious accolade to its growing list of industry honours, being named Best Medium Crossover at the 2026 UK Car of the Year Awards. Recognised for its practicality, range, and value, the all-electric compact SUV continues to set new benchmarks in its segment.
Judged by some of the UK’s most experienced motoring journalists—including teams from Top Gear and Auto Express alongside leading freelance writers—the Elroq was praised for its refined driving dynamics, clever interior packaging, and overall value, making it a standout choice in a fiercely competitive category.
John Challen highlighted the Elroq’s balanced appeal: “A fantastic all-rounder, without any unnecessary fuss – classic Škoda. The Elroq impresses in every department and is the perfect automotive companion for almost every occasion.” James Batchelor added: “Škoda has played a blinder here and successfully downsized everything that makes the larger Enyaq so great but put it into a smaller package. The fact that it’s good fun to drive and has a quality feeling interior is the icing on the cake.”
Other panel members echoed this sentiment, with Paul Barker praising its clever touches and value, while Guy Bird highlighted its understated excellence: “Quietly does so much right, without fuss and complication while wearing Škoda’s smart new exterior face.” Keith Jones noted: “A really sound, pragmatic choice for seasoned electric car owners and first-time EVers alike,” and Matt Robinson summed up the overall view: “Does everything its big brother Enyaq does, only in a more compact package and at a more affordable price. What more could you want from a family EV than this?”
Launched in the UK in April 2025, the Elroq is offered with three battery options: 63 kWh (59 kWh net), 82 kWh (77 kWh net), and the vRS-exclusive 84 kWh (79 kWh net). Standard rear-wheel drive is paired with a rear-mounted motor, while the vRS variant delivers all-wheel drive performance. The 82 kWh battery provides a combined WLTP range of up to 355 miles, and power outputs range from 204 PS to 340 PS depending on specification.
The Elroq’s commercial success mirrors its critical acclaim. In 2025, it became Europe’s second best-selling EV, celebrated for its combination of range, practicality, and value. In the UK, it has amassed a series of high-profile awards: Auto Express named it both Car of the Year and Mid-Size SUV of the Year, What Car?’s Electric Car Awards recognised it as Best Family Electric SUV, and the performance-focused Elroq vRS earned Car of the Year from The Sunday Times Driving.
The overall UK Car of the Year 2026 will be revealed on 26 February, with the Elroq entering the final judging stage as a strong contender from the Medium Crossover category. Regardless of the outcome, the Elroq’s position as a benchmark for practical, fun, and accessible electric SUVs is firmly cemented.
