Mladá Boleslav, Czech Republic – January 22, 2025
Škoda Auto has officially commenced production of its eagerly anticipated all-electric compact SUV, the Škoda Elroq, at its flagship Mladá Boleslav plant. This milestone marks a significant chapter for the Czech carmaker, as the Elroq not only represents a strategic expansion into the compact EV segment but also showcases Škoda’s first adoption of its bold new Modern Solid design language.
Sharing the flexible assembly line with the updated Škoda Enyaq and the ICE-powered Octavia, the Elroq’s production underscores the plant’s ability to adapt swiftly to evolving market demands. This capability has been further enhanced by relocating part of Octavia’s production to Škoda’s Kvasiny plant, paving the way for a daily output of up to 600 Elroq units.
A Strategic Investment in Electrification
Škoda Auto’s commitment to electrification is evident in its decision to produce the Elroq on the MEB platform, which it shares with the highly successful Enyaq. The Mladá Boleslav plant also manufactures battery systems for Škoda’s EVs as well as for other Volkswagen Group brands, reinforcing its status as a hub of innovation. Notably, the plant recently celebrated the production of its one-millionth battery system, a testament to its integral role in the Volkswagen Group’s electrification strategy.
Andreas Dick, Škoda Auto Board Member for Production and Logistics, praised the team’s efforts:
“The production launch of our new Elroq compact SUV at our main plant is a great accomplishment for the entire team. Sharing the assembly line with its electric sibling, the Škoda Enyaq, alongside local production of battery systems, creates significant synergies in production and cost efficiency, ultimately benefiting our customers.”

The Elroq: Affordable Innovation
Positioned as one of the most affordable EVs in its segment, the Elroq combines Škoda’s hallmark value-for-money proposition with cutting-edge technology. With prices starting at £31,500 in the UK, the Elroq achieves price parity with its ICE counterparts in numerous markets, making it a compelling choice for cost-conscious buyers transitioning to electric mobility.
The Elroq is offered with three battery options, catering to diverse customer needs:
- Elroq 50: 170 PS entry-level variant
- Elroq 85: Offers a range of up to 360 miles (WLTP) with an 82 kWh battery.
Fast-charging capabilities ensure that the Elroq 85 can charge from 10% to 80% in just 28 minutes at up to 175 kW, making it a practical choice for long-distance drivers.
Demand and Future Prospects
Revealed in October 2024, the Škoda Elroq has already garnered significant interest, with over 20,000 global orders by the end of the year. Its debut signals a bold step forward for Škoda, aiming to attract a new wave of customers seeking sustainable, high-quality, and affordable mobility solutions.
