The class leading convenience of seven seats and a high level of specification for both the LT and LTZ levels of trim translate into a great value proposition for the new Chevrolet Captiva. As the best value 7-seater SUV on the market the Captiva combines the appeal of an MPV with the off-road potential of a true SUV.

The inclusion of a 2,4 litre front-wheel-drive automatic model in the range opens up the versatility of the Captiva to buyers who desire the space and functionality of the vehicle but need the convenience of an automatic transmission.

The clever “fold-flat-to-floor” seating layout of the Captiva provides for a multitude of flexible seating configurations for up to seven passengers. The rearmost seats fold away flat at the pull of a lever for an unencumbered load bay.

The second row of seats can also be folded away, completely flat – in stages, to add more versatility to the load area. If the need arises to carry the occasional extra long item, such as a step ladder, then the front passenger seat can also be folded down to provide a load length of 2,7 metres on that side of the vehicle.

With the rearmost seats folded flat luggage capacity is 477 litres. Fold the middle row of seats down and this increases to 942 litres. With all but the driver’s seat folded down there is a massive 1 565 litres of load capacity available. Even in 7-seat configuration, there is a usable 85 litres of cargo space. The tailgate features a smart opening, flip up, rear window for convenience when small items need to be placed in the rear of the vehicle.

The Chevrolet Captiva’s appeal goes beyond practicality. The design of the cabin space is modern and stylish and offers high levels of quality with excellent fit and finish combined with high-grade materials throughout. Soft-touch plastics, an integrated sound system, and air-conditioning add to the appeal.

Standard equipment on all models includes an advanced ESP (Electronic Stability Programme) to help the driver regain control in the event of a skid. It does this by applying selective braking and throttle input to the appropriate wheels to bring the vehicle under control if a situation such as understeer, oversteer, a heavy braking action, or an aggressive steering action is detected.

Also standard on all models is Hydraulic Brake Assist, which increases the braking pressure to bring the vehicle to a stop in a shorter distance if an emergency braking action is sensed by the system. The Hill Descent Control System, activated by the push of a button, keeps the vehicle to a maximum speed of 7km/h on steep downward slopes, while Active Rollover Protection automatically detects heavy steering inputs and applies the brake to the outside front wheel to decrease lateral acceleration and reduce the effect of such a manoeuvre on the Captiva’s centre of gravity.

New on all models of the latest Captiva is an electronic park-brake which frees up the space around the centre console.

Aside from the packaging benefits, the electronic park-brake system introduces added functionality as well. Linked to the system is the Hill Start Assist (HSA) feature that holds the vehicle stationary for 1,5 seconds after the footbrake is released on gradients of 3% or greater. This effectively eliminates any rollback when moving away from rest on a gradient. Another feature of the package is Electronic Park Brake Dynamic Assist that allows the electronic brake control module to apply selective four corner braking in conditions where it is required to slow the vehicle in unstable conditions.

Standard equipment for the Captiva 2.4 LT FWD and AWD specification level includes:

  • 2.4 litre 4-cylinder fuel-injected petrol engine with maximum power of 123 kW and maximum torque of 230 Nm.
  • 7.0JX17 inch alloy wheels fitted with 235/60 R17 tyres (full size spare included). On the Captiva 2.4LT AWD model wheels are 7.0JX18 alloy fitted with 235/55 R18 tyres.
