Futuristic “Silent night” with quiet and emissions free electric vehicle
Rüsselsheim. Santa Claus has always travelled in a carbon neutral fashion. However, this year the new Santa is giving his reindeer a well-deserved break. They are being replaced by an alternative which comes fresh from the Opel headquarters in Rüsselsheim: the electric RAK e.
The concept of “A Silent Night” at Christmas and the discreet delivery of gifts is no longer just a dream. However, the nicest present goes to the environment – this new mode of transport is totally emissions free.
Opel is committed to E-Mobility all the year round and not just at Christmas. The RAK e underscores that commitment. The urban electric vehicle which was first unveiled at the international car show in
only weighs 380 kilograms as it is made of lightweight material. This is about a third of an average small car and even less than the ordinary reindeer sleigh. Even other aspects make the RAK e superior: It has a turning circle of just 5.5 meters which makes it very nimble in crowded town centers and also boasts a top speed of 120 km/h. In addition, the RAK e is cheaper than the reindeers in terms of maintenance: it only uses one euro per 100 kilometers in electricity costs. Not even the hay for Santa’s fury helpers is that cheap.
As yet, the new Santa’s electric “sleigh” is still a unique concept car. However, with the Ampera Opel has already begun to turn the future into a reality by building electric series production vehicles. Opel has assumed a leadership role in the field of E-Mobility, just as the brand enters its 150th anniversary year in 2012.
The Opel Ampera is the first electric car from a European manufacturer with “go anywhere, anytime” mobility and a total range of 500 km. The five-door sedan offers space for four adults and also enables the environmentally friendly delivery of larger gifts that also Santa appreciates.
