Radio DJ and TV presenter Sam Thompson took to the roads—and paths—on an ambitious 260-mile journey from Stamford Bridge to Old Trafford, all in the name of a great cause: Soccer Aid for UNICEF. As the official carrier of the Soccer Aid 2024 match ball, Sam’s mission was more than just symbolic; it was a physical feat, a charitable milestone, and a celebration of teamwork, all backed by Suzuki.

Over the course of five days, Sam walked and cycled across the country, braving unpredictable weather and intense mileage to raise over £1.5 million for UNICEF. His journey formed part of this year’s Soccer Aid Match Ball Mission, a unique campaign blending sport, celebrity, and humanitarianism. From the iconic pitch at Stamford Bridge—home to the first Soccer Aid match in 2006—to the hallowed turf of Old Trafford, where this year’s game will take place, Sam’s route was carefully planned to honour the sport’s community spirit. Along the way, he made stops at key football grounds, including a visit to the MK Dons, proudly sponsored by Suzuki.

Throughout the challenge, a fleet of five Suzuki vehicles provided essential support to Sam and his crew, ensuring the team had everything they needed to complete the demanding trek. Suzuki’s commitment didn’t stop there. As Principal Partner of Soccer Aid for UNICEF 2024, the brand has once again reinforced its dedication to social impact, echoing the values of resilience, solidarity, and hope that lie at the heart of the annual event.

Jodie Brooke, Senior Brand Communications Manager, Automotive Division at Suzuki, said:

“We are delighted to have played our part in supporting Sam and his team during his incredible mission. It was a huge challenge, and it’s a testament to Sam’s dedication and determination that he was able to safely deliver the match ball for Sunday’s game.

“We are thrilled to be part of this year’s Soccer Aid for UNICEF as Principal Partner and look forward to showcasing our brand-new e Vitara in Sam’s Match Ball Mission programme on Friday 13th June.”

As a highlight of its involvement, Suzuki’s all-new e Vitara—the brand’s first battery electric vehicle—will feature prominently in “Sam’s Match Ball Mission”, airing at 9pm on ITV1 this Friday, 13th June. The vehicle will be showcased in sponsored segments before and after each advert break, offering viewers a glimpse of Suzuki’s exciting step into electrification.

The main event, Soccer Aid for UNICEF 2024, kicks off on Sunday 15th June, promising a thrilling clash between England and the Soccer Aid World XI. Since its inception, Soccer Aid has raised more than £106 million, helping UNICEF provide children around the world with access to education, healthcare, and protection.

With Sam’s journey now complete and the match ball safely delivered, attention turns to Old Trafford, where football meets philanthropy in what promises to be another unforgettable evening for a good cause—with Suzuki proudly driving the mission forward.
