Teenager Charlie Heyman continue to move up the MX2 results with his biggest ever points haul in the British championship and he finally moved into the top ten in the series. He now sits eighth after a gritty ride to eighth overall place at Hawkstone Park on Sunday.

Heyman scored 26 points for eighth overall, one point more than his last outing where he also finished eighth overall at Blaxhall. But his consistency means he has moved up from 11th in the series to eighth in his first season of adult-class racing.

Heyman, ninth in qualifying, didn’t get an amazing start and came around lap one in 15th spot. But he staged one of his trademark rides through the pack and pulled through to an excellent seventh place finish.

The second race was a virtual replay of the first as the 17-year-old was 14th on the opening lap and then battled hard with a group of more experienced riders. He brought the Tru7 Honda Racing Academy machine home ninth, just behind two rivals in a thrilling race to the finish. Heyman took eighth overall.

Heyman said: “It was another weekend going in the right direction. I had two strong performances and my fitness made it a bit easier towards the end of the races in the rough conditions. The track was very rough but also fast. My Honda CRF250R was amazing as always. It handles like a dream which is always a big help.”

In the MX1 class, Callum Green was loving the track and made his best start of the season in the opening race, coming into the first corner in the leading pack. But it all went quickly wrong a rider pulled across in front of him and took Green and several others down with him.

Green, continuing to get back into high-level of UK racing after a few seasons plagued by injuries, quickly picked up the Honda CRF450R and made a charge despite his knee being hurt in the spill. He ended the first lap last in 32nd place then rode through the pain to take a commendable 19th at the finish, passing 13 rivals on the tough, gruelling track.

In the second moto he made a decent start and was in 16th place, battling to move even higher. But the pain from the injured knee kicked in and he slowly dropped back. With four laps remaining, he pulled out to fight on another day.

Green said: “It was a tough end of the day for me. After coming from dead last to 19th in the first race, I was confident going into race two and was sitting 16th at half distance. But the pain from my knee was just too much to carry on.

“But I must take the positives and that is my speed is a lot better and I had two good starts – minus the crash! I’m going to keep working hard and plugging away.”
