Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has once again pushed the boundaries of Bespoke automotive design with the unveiling of the Spectre Lunaflair, a one-of-a-kind commission that captures the ethereal beauty of a lunar halo. Created for an esteemed client from the United States, the Spectre Lunaflair stands as a testament to Rolls-Royce’s dedication to transforming visionary concepts into reality.
At the heart of this extraordinary vehicle is the Lunaflair paint finish, an awe-inspiring holographic hue that evokes the natural spectacle of a lunar halo. This optical phenomenon, which occurs when moonlight refracts through ice crystals in high-altitude cirrus clouds, results in a radiant, rainbow-like ring encircling the moon. The Lunaflair paint mimics this rare event with an unprecedented level of precision and artistry, offering an exquisite technicolour effect that comes to life in sunlight.
The creation of this bespoke paint required more than a year of meticulous development by Rolls-Royce’s renowned Bespoke Collective. Comprising expert designers, engineers, and craftspeople, the team dedicated themselves to perfecting a complex, multi-layered process. The paint is composed of seven layers of lacquer, including a pearlescent coat infused with fine flakes of magnesium fluoride and aluminium, which imbue the finish with a deep metallic sheen in low light. Under bright sunshine, however, the Spectre Lunaflair reveals its true brilliance, bursting into a vivid rainbow of colours.

This commission was born from the commissioning client’s encounter with another Rolls-Royce masterpiece: the Phantom Syntopia, revealed in 2023. Captivated by the iridescent Liquid Noir finish of the Phantom, the client envisioned a lighter, more luminous expression of the concept, drawing inspiration from the natural wonder of the lunar halo. Thus, the Spectre Lunaflair was conceived, demonstrating the power of cross-pollination within Rolls-Royce’s Bespoke programme.
According to Martina Starke, Head of Bespoke Design at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, “Spectre Lunaflair is the perfect example of how a Bespoke commission can draw from the work of another, creating a ‘virtuous circle’ of innovation and creativity.” This symbiotic exchange between clients and designers has been instrumental in the development of groundbreaking Bespoke projects, fostering an ever-evolving dialogue that elevates the art of automotive craftsmanship.
The interior of the Spectre Lunaflair is as extraordinary as its exterior. Inspired by the soft spectrum of hues visible during a lunar halo, the cabin is a blend of Navy Blue, White, and Peony Pink tones, appearing on the seats, doors, and the renowned Starlight Headliner. This celestial theme extends to the dual-tone steering wheel, featuring a Navy Blue outer section and an Arctic White inner side, completing the motor car’s harmonious design language.
As with all Rolls-Royce commissions of this calibre, the Spectre Lunaflair is a true one-of-one creation, with no plans for any reproductions. The exclusive Lunaflair paint, reserved solely for this particular client, solidifies its status as a singular masterpiece in the automotive world.
With the unveiling of the Spectre Lunaflair, Rolls-Royce continues to demonstrate that the limits of Bespoke design are bound only by the imagination of those who commission these remarkable vehicles. Through innovation, creativity, and an unwavering commitment to excellence, Rolls-Royce ensures that each Bespoke masterpiece is a unique work of art—worthy of the marque’s legendary reputation.
