Classic Car Show Returns to Nasrec Expo Centre for a Two-Day Extravaganza

Get ready to witness an automotive spectacle like no other as the Nasrec Expo Centre, located south-west of Johannesburg, hosts the annual Classic Car Show on Saturday, July 6, and Sunday, July 7, 2024. For the first time, this renowned event will span two days, offering car enthusiasts an extended opportunity to revel in the glory of classic and modern vehicles.

The event will feature a stunning display of German vs Jap modern classics and customs, pre-delivered to Nasrec and showcased throughout the weekend. This year promises an unparalleled blend of automotive heritage, with tickets available through Computicket at R100 for adults and R30 for children under 12. Each ticket is valid for one day only, with the show running from 8 am to 5 pm on both days.

Paulo Calisto, founder and organiser of the Classic Car Show, expressed his excitement about the expansion: “Last year’s one-day show saw us break all attendance records at Nasrec. It was wonderful to see over 30,000 car enthusiasts gathered for one event. Logistically, we decided the time had come to move to a two-day event.”

Visitors can expect a wide array of classic cars, with American beauties from the be-finned 1950s, muscle cars from the ’60s and ’70s, and British, French, and Italian classics spanning from the 1940s to the early 1980s. The event offers a unique opportunity to experience the diverse automotive styles from various continents, featuring everything from massive American saloons to compact European and Asian cars.

One of the most fascinating aspects of the Classic Car Show is the variety of engine sizes and configurations on display. Enthusiasts can compare the snarl of a highly-tuned four-cylinder engine from Europe or the UK with the rumble of an American V8, offering a captivating exploration of the motorcar’s evolution through different eras and nations.

In addition to the traditional classics, the show will feature the immensely popular German vs Jap show-within-a-show segment. This contingent highlights customised modern classics with German and Japanese heritage, showcasing models up to the present day. Expect to see hot VW Golfs, turbocharged Toyotas, and snarling Subarus, all with eye-catching paint jobs, air-suspended ride heights, and engines producing startling amounts of power.

Special competitions will be held throughout the weekend, including the Limbo event, where cars compete to pass under the lowest setting of a barrier, and the Dyno Day on Sunday, featuring a dynamometer to measure engine power. Serious contenders are expected to achieve power outputs exceeding 400 kW!

Dawood Hoosein, chief organiser of the German vs Jap show segment, shared his enthusiasm: “We are very excited about going to a two-day event. This year, we have taken the step to require all cars in our show segment to be pre-entered. The German vs Jap cars will be delivered to Nasrec starting on Thursday, July 4, and the top cars will be housed under cover in Hall 5 for the duration of the show.”

Owners arriving in classic cars 40-years-and-older at Gate 5 will gain free admittance to the event, along with one passenger. In line with the new policy, all cars in the German vs Jap segment must be pre-entered via the Southside Crew’s website, www.southsidecrew.co.za.

The event will also feature a variety of food and drink options, music, helicopter flips, and kiddie play areas, ensuring a great family day out for all car lovers. Tickets are available through Computicket, with no sales at the gate. For more information, visit www.classiccarshow.co.za or www.southsidecrew.co.za.

Don’t miss this extraordinary celebration of automotive history and modern classics at the Nasrec Expo Centre!
