As the 2025 South African Rotax MAX Challenge (SARMC) approaches its crescendo, Round 3 at the unforgiving iDube Raceway served as both proving ground and pressure cooker for the Toyota Gazoo Racing Junior Academy (TGRJA). With every session on KwaZulu-Natal’s famously technical track carrying weight for national titles and coveted tickets to the Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals (RMCGF), the weekend demanded resilience, racecraft, and resolve. The TGRJA responded with all three.
DD2 – Coetzee Commands the Summit
Jason Coetzee once again reinforced his stature as the class of the DD2 field. After missing out on pole by the narrowest of margins, the Cape Town talent responded with surgical consistency—securing two dominant wins and a third-place finish. The result not only extended his championship lead but also underscored his remarkable record: three rounds, three overall victories, and seven heat wins from nine attempts.
“Jason’s level of precision, especially on a track like iDube, is something special,” noted TGRJA Team Principal Leeroy Poulter. “He’s elevated his game with each round, and it’s inspiring for the rest of the academy.”
Senior MAX – Lessons in Adversity and Growth
It was a weekend of contrasts for the TGRJA’s Senior MAX contingent.
Kent Swartz showed glimpses of the pace that made him a former national champion, securing second on the grid and a solid fourth in the opening heat. However, two consecutive DNFs cut short his charge and turned a promising outing into a tough lesson in racing’s unpredictability.
Meanwhile, Georgia Lenaerts emerged as one of the Academy’s standout performers. Showing maturity and poise, she pieced together two fourth-place finishes and a sixth, securing fourth overall for the round. It marked her most competitive showing of the season and signalled a clear upward trajectory in both performance and confidence.

Junior MAX – Dowling Delivers, Shisinwana Soldiers On
In Junior MAX, Emma-Rose Dowling continued to build her case as one of the Academy’s most consistent contenders. With two hard-fought podium finishes and fourth overall, Dowling’s steady hand and smooth progression kept her firmly in the championship hunt.
Teammate Tshepang Shisinwana, no stranger to national accolades, had a weekend of mixed fortunes. His raw speed was evident throughout, but a DNF in the final heat saw him end the round in eighth. Still, his adaptation to the complexities of the Junior class remains impressive, and he stays in striking distance of a top-five season finish.
Mini MAX – Kaiyamo Brothers Show Tenacity
For Namibian twins Mandume and Nande Kaiyamo, iDube was a masterclass in perseverance. Mandume’s consistency across all three heats was rewarded with an 11th-place finish—just outside the top 10—while Nande’s 21st place belied a weekend spent absorbing the unique demands of national competition.
“These two have grit,” said Poulter. “It’s not just about where they finish now—it’s about how quickly they’re learning and applying. That’s what will count in the long run.”
Poulter’s Perspective – Character Over Comfort
As TGRJA navigated one of the toughest tracks on the calendar, Poulter was quick to highlight the deeper value of the weekend’s efforts.
“iDube tests more than just speed—it tests character,” he said. “Jason continues to deliver at an elite level, while Emma and Kent once again showed their class in very tough fields. Tshepang is learning fast, and it was great to see both Georgia and the Kaiyamo twins put in gritty drives. That’s exactly what the academy is about—developing resilience and performance under pressure.”
Looking Ahead – The Final Push
With just one round remaining, the Academy heads to Zwartkops Kart Raceway on 4–5 July for the African Open—one final opportunity to book a seat at the RMC Grand Finals in Bahrain. For TGRJA, the momentum is real, the confidence is building, and the stakes have never been higher.
Round 3 wasn’t just another race weekend—it was a showcase of growth, grit, and the kind of talent that defines the future of South African motorsport.
