The automotive industry’s pinnacle achievements were celebrated at the 2024 Autocar Awards, honoring outstanding models, industry leaders, and innovators. Leading the accolades was Luca de Meo, CEO of Renault Group, recipient of the prestigious Issigonis Trophy. De Meo’s visionary leadership at Renault has not only revitalized the company’s financial competitiveness but also positioned it as a frontrunner in decarbonization efforts across Europe. His strategic initiatives include the successful revival of Renault’s iconic 5 supermini as an electric vehicle, marking a significant leap towards sustainable mobility.
Among other notable recipients, Marek Reichman, Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer at Aston Martin, was awarded the Sturmey Award for his decade-long commitment to groundbreaking automotive design, evident in models like the DB11, Vulcan, and DBX. Meanwhile, David Moss, Nissan’s Senior Vice President of Research & Development, clinched the Mundy Award for Engineering, recognizing his pivotal role in advancing automotive technology.
The evening also highlighted Martin Brundle’s Editor’s Award for his engaging contributions to Formula 1 broadcasting, as well as Volkswagen’s Andreas Mindt receiving the Design Hero accolade for his innovative contributions to Volkswagen’s electrification-focused design philosophy.
In addition to individual achievements, Autocar recognized outstanding models available to UK drivers, with the Renault Clio named Britain’s Best Small Car, the Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato winning Britain’s Best Driver’s Car, and the Cupra Born awarded Britain’s Best Electric Car. Other standout models included the Kia EV9 for Best Large Car, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N for Best Performance Car, the BMW 5 Series for Best Hybrid, the Volkswagen ID 7 for Best Saloon, and the Ford Mustang honored as Best Dream Car.
