Ten years ago, the Renault KWID rolled onto South African roads with a clear mission: to deliver compact urban mobility without compromising on style, practicality, or value. As 2026 approaches, the KWID marks its 10th anniversary, having firmly established itself as a favourite within the entry-level segment, with over 70,000 units sold across the country. More than just a car, it has become a symbol of smart, accessible, and stylish mobility for South Africans.

Bigger on Value. Lighter on Price.

Renault’s commitment to providing an affordable, fully equipped vehicle is exemplified in the newly repositioned KWID range. Effective 1st October 2025, the KWID starts at an accessible R178 799, making it the most competitively priced vehicle in South Africa.

The pricing structure goes beyond just affordability. It includes a 1-year comprehensive insurance, a 5-year/150,000 km warranty, and a 2-year/30,000 km service plan, offering peace of mind and a hassle-free ownership experience.

In line with Renault’s refreshed naming convention, the entry-level Life model has been rebranded Evolution, while the mid-spec Zen becomes Techno. The top-tier Climber retains its aspirational name. From November 2025, both Evolution and Climber variants will receive notable upgrades, including an 8-inch touchscreen in the Evolution and six airbags in the Climber, underscoring Renault’s dedication to value, safety, and technology.

Rugged, SUV-Inspired Styling

Despite its compact footprint, the Renault KWID commands attention on the road. Its elevated ground clearance imparts a rugged SUV-inspired stance, while striking design details — from roof rails and bold body cladding to pronounced wheel arches and sleek LED daytime running lights — elevate the KWID beyond a typical entry-level hatchback. The overall effect is a vehicle that exudes modern sophistication and urban confidence.

Practicality That Fits Every Journey

Inside, the KWID surprises with roomy cabin proportions and clever storage solutions. The 279-litre boot leads its segment, accommodating everything from weekend getaways to everyday errands. Rear passengers enjoy comfortable legroom, and thoughtful interior touches make each journey convenient, whether commuting through the city or exploring beyond.

Feature-Rich Comfort and Safety

Renault has carefully packed the KWID with value-adding features, ensuring comfort, connectivity, and safety without inflating the price tag. From the Techno upwards, drivers benefit from reverse camera assistance and electric windows, while the Climber delivers enhanced safety with six airbags. Across the range, connectivity options like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, USB, and Aux inputs are standard, while dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, seatbelt reminders, central locking, and reverse parking sensors keep both driver and passengers protected. Comfort features, including power steering, air-conditioning, and excellent visibility, further enhance the driving experience.

Efficient, Urban-Friendly Performance

At the heart of the KWID is the 1.0-litre Smart Control Efficiency engine, engineered for low fuel consumption and urban practicality. The manual derivative returns an impressive 4.9L/100 km, while the AMT variant is even more economical at 4.4L/100 km, making it an ideal companion for daily commutes and city driving.

The KWID proves that efficiency does not need to come at the expense of enjoyment. Its agile handling, compact dimensions, and elevated driving position make navigating city streets effortless while retaining the confident stance of an SUV.

A Legacy of Smart Mobility

Over a decade, the Renault KWID has earned its place as a defining vehicle in South Africa’s entry-level market. By combining accessible pricing, practical design, urban agility, and safety-driven innovation, the KWID has consistently delivered value that resonates with a wide spectrum of South African drivers.

As the KWID celebrates its 10th anniversary, Renault reaffirms its commitment to smart mobility solutions that are both stylish and practical, ensuring that the KWID remains a standout choice for urban adventurers seeking more car for their money.
