Renault is bringing back the thrill of the 1980s with the modern, all-electric Renault 5 Turbo 3E. Inspired by the legendary Renault 5 Turbo and Turbo 2, this high-performance machine redefines what a compact sports car can be. With Alpine’s expertise in sporty electric models, Renault has created a 540-horsepower, rear-wheel-drive beast that combines nostalgia with cutting-edge technology.

A Mini-Supercar for the Electric Age

The Renault 5 Turbo 3E is more than a tribute to its predecessors—it inaugurates an entirely new category: the mini-supercar. Just four meters long, it boasts the performance credentials of much larger high-performance vehicles. Its staggering 800-volt architecture enables rapid DC charging, taking the battery from 15% to 80% in just 15 minutes, ensuring minimal downtime between exhilarating drives.

This limited-edition model—only 1,980 units will be produced—offers a highly customizable experience, allowing owners to craft their own unique interpretations of this modern classic. Reservations open in the coming weeks, setting the stage for one of the most anticipated automotive releases of 2027.

Heritage Reimagined with Advanced Engineering

The original Renault 5 Turbo and Turbo 2 made waves in the 1980s with their radical mid-engine, turbocharged setups—technology derived from Renault’s Formula 1 innovations of the time. The new Turbo 3E continues that spirit but swaps internal combustion for electric precision, featuring rear-mounted in-wheel motors delivering an astonishing 4,800 Nm of torque at the wheels. The result? A 0-100 km/h sprint in under 3.5 seconds and handling capabilities designed for rallying, drifting, and track domination.

A Design That Screams Performance

The Renault 5 Turbo 3E’s design is an exuberant nod to its predecessors while embracing modern aerodynamics. Wide fender flares, an aggressive rear wing, and a striking front splitter contribute to its rally-bred presence. Square LED headlights echo the original Turbo’s signature look, while cleverly integrated air scoops enhance cooling and efficiency.

Sitting on a bespoke platform, the car measures 4.08 meters in length and 2.03 meters in width, giving it the proportions of a supercar in a hot hatch package. The two-seater layout remains, ensuring a focused, driver-centric experience.

A High-Tech Performance Machine

Renault and Alpine have engineered a state-of-the-art aluminum chassis that prioritizes agility and weight reduction. The in-wheel motors allow for precise torque vectoring, offering instantaneous power delivery with no turbo lag.

Additional innovations include:

  • Lightweight Carbon Superstructure: Enhances rigidity while keeping weight to a minimum.
  • Bidirectional Charging (V2L and V2G): Enables the vehicle to supply power to external devices or the grid.
  • Advanced Digital Cockpit: A futuristic interface blending nostalgic design cues with modern connectivity.

The Future of High-Performance Electric Driving

Renault 5 Turbo 3E stands as the most powerful and technologically advanced road car Renault has ever built. It embodies the brand’s commitment to electrification, innovation, and sheer driving pleasure. By creating a new segment of electric mini-supercars, Renault proves that the future of performance vehicles remains thrilling and exhilarating.

With its limited production run, blistering performance, and iconic design, the Renault 5 Turbo 3E is set to become a highly sought-after collector’s item. Whether for rallying, drifting, or road-going excitement, this electric pocket rocket is poised to make history—again.
