  • On the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Stellantis reaffirms its commitment to inclusive mobility by introducing the Alfa Romeo Tonale for All, an innovative solution engineered in Italy to empower drivers with upper limb disabilities.

Accessibility Through Innovation

Tonale for All reflects Stellantis’ approach to universal accessibility: practical solutions, advanced engineering, and respectful design. Developed in collaboration with CRF and Fadiel Italiana, this special version integrates advanced solutions that enable safe, confident driving for individuals with reduced upper limb functionality.

Key Features

  • Pedal Steering System (DGS03)

An electromechanical system with dual motors allows drivers to steer using pedal movement. The architecture is fully redundant (motors, batteries, and control units) and supported by a Thin-Film Transistor (TFT) display for continuous system feedback.

  • Ergonomic Central Console

A raised, custom-built console produced via additive manufacturing ensures easy access to primary vehicle controls, including transmission, horn, windows, lights, electric brake, voice commands, and USB ports. Layout and component placement are optimized for reach, comfort, and operability.

Safety and Certification

The central console is engineered to comply with ECE 21 crash safety standards, with rounded edges and minimal intrusion. Tonale for All has received homologation as a unique specimen from the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.

A Practical Expression of Inclusion

Tonale for All demonstrates how technical innovation can expand independence and mobility. The solutions developed for this project can be adapted across the Stellantis portfolio and tailored to individual needs, in alignment with local medical commission requirements and regulations.

Building on Previous Initiatives: AMI for All

Tonale for All builds on Stellantis’ commitment to inclusive mobility, following Citroën’s “Ami for All”, which was born in 2020 from the Star*up program, Stellantis’ internal incubator for innovative employee ideas. Developed with PIMAS, AMI for All provides accessible, practical, and independent mobility for persons with disabilities, particularly wheelchair users. The compact electric vehicle allows easy transfer into the cabin, adapted driving controls, and safe storage of the wheelchair, enabling everyday mobility, social integration, and autonomy.

Stellantis Autonomy Program (Italy)

Launched in 1995, the Autonomy Program has been advancing inclusive mobility for 30 years, with currently 14 Mobility Centers in Italy. These centers offer driving assessments, psychological and motor skill evaluations, and personalized advice on technical adaptations, helping over 1,000 people each year gain independent mobility. The program spans all Stellantis brands, combining product development, research in ergonomics and safety, and tailored services to make mobility accessible to everyone.

DriveAbility Program (United States)

As the first automaker to enter the U.S. mobility marketplace, Stellantis created the DriveAbility Program, offering vehicles designed for adaptive modifications to enhance daily driving. From getting in to getting going, DriveAbility ensures an enjoyable experience, with equipment for acceleration, braking, shifting, and steering. The program collaborates with adaptive equipment manufacturers nationwide to develop the best solutions, keeping drivers active, independent, and mobile.

Commitment to Inclusive Mobility

Through the Autonomy and DriveAbility programs, Stellantis empowers individuals with motor, sensory, or intellectual limitations to experience freedom and independence across its vehicle portfolio. Projects like Tonale for All, building on AMI for All, underscore Stellantis’ ongoing mission: mobility solutions that work for everyone, without compromising safety, performance, or design.
