LOS ANGELES – February 03, 2026 – In a collaboration that fuses motorsport engineering with bespoke automotive craftsmanship, Red Bull Advanced Technologies (RBAT) has joined forces with Singer to enhance the performance of the legendary Porsche 964 Cabriolets and Targas. Through Singer’s Classic Turbo services, the partnership focuses on increasing torsional stiffness, ensuring that open-roofed 964s deliver a driving experience on par with their coupe counterparts.

Since its founding in California in 2009, Singer has embodied a philosophy succinctly described as “A Relentless Pursuit of Excellence.” The company has gained international acclaim for reimagining air-cooled Porsche 911s through highly personalized restorations, combining heritage aesthetics with modern engineering. This ethos naturally aligns with RBAT’s expertise in high-performance engineering, honed through years of success at the pinnacle of motorsport.

The process begins when a 964-generation Porsche 911 Cabriolet or Targa arrives at Singer for restoration. Each car, originally produced more than three decades ago, is meticulously disassembled. Interior elements, body panels, and mechanical components are removed to reveal the steel monocoque chassis, which is then carefully assessed, cleaned, and prepared for the restoration process.

To address the inherent challenges of open-roof designs, Singer enlisted RBAT to apply their advanced simulation and structural analysis capabilities. The 964 chassis was digitally modelled using a combination of precise scanning and manual measurements. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software enabled RBAT engineers to calculate torsional stiffness across different configurations, from roofless Targas to Cabriolets. The model was iteratively refined until simulation results matched physical test data, providing an accurate foundation for further engineering.

Using these insights, RBAT identified which areas of the open-roof structure experienced the highest strain under torsion. The team then designed thirteen bespoke carbon fibre reinforcements tailored to these critical regions. These structures were integrated into the digital model and fine-tuned to achieve the desired stiffness while respecting the original chassis design and packaging constraints. A prototype featuring these reinforcements underwent rigorous validation testing, confirming the analysis and design approach.

Once installed during the Singer restoration process, the thirteen carbon fibre reinforcements increase torsional rigidity by an impressive 175%. The benefits are immediate: sharper handling, improved braking response, and overall refinement that brings the driving dynamics of open-roofed 964s in line with the coupe models.

Rob Gray, Technical Director at RBAT, commented on the project: “Our expertise is derived from relentless competition and success at the very highest levels of motorsport. The challenge from Singer was to enhance the stiffness of the open-roof Type 964, giving it coupe-level dynamics while minimizing additional weight. Balancing performance against weight is something we do daily, and it’s gratifying to deliver a solution that supports Singer and their clients so precisely.”

Mazen Fawaz, Chief Strategy Officer at Singer, emphasized the significance of the collaboration: “Our clients expect the highest standards, and we work only with partners who share our commitment to excellence. Red Bull Advanced Technologies’ mastery of advanced materials, simulation, and structural engineering perfectly complements our approach. The results speak for themselves and reflect the lengths we go to in our relentless pursuit of perfection.”

Singer’s Classic Turbo services allow owners to restore their cars with inspiration drawn from the original 911 Turbo, launched in 1974. Whether restoring coupes, Cabriolets, or Targas, the service combines heritage design with modern engineering solutions to create vehicles that are as thrilling to drive as they are visually stunning.
