This past weekend, the Toyota South African Sports Association for the Physically Disabled (SASAPD) Championships dazzled attendees with a remarkable display of talent and resilience. The event, staged by the University of Free State in Bloemfontein, drew a crowd of top schools and athletes from across South Africa, celebrating the prowess and spirit of athletes with disabilities.
A standout performance by Puseletso Mabote, a Global Team Toyota Athlete (GTTA), highlighted the championships. The 19-year-old set a new African record in the men’s long jump T63, soaring to 5.93 meters. He also shattered the world record in the 200-meter dash, clocking in at 25.12 seconds and improving his previous best time significantly. Mabote’s achievements exemplify the championship’s core values of perseverance and commitment.
The organizers, including the University of Free State and Bloemfontein, collaborated seamlessly to offer a conducive environment for the athletes, enhancing the success of the event.
