PRETORIA, September 30 2013  With 129 awards and over 170 000 global sales, the Range Rover Evoque is an undisputed success story, and two years after its South African launch it remains the benchmark for style – now even more so.

Range Rover Evoque Black_Edition

Land Rover South Africa has introduced a special Black Edition of the svelte SUV, taking the stylish persona of the compact all-roader to a new level.  If you aim to stand out from the crowd an Evoque is already a hard act to follow, but the Black Edition guarantees success in this regard. With distinctive exterior detailing and a choice of any colour you like (as long as it is from the timeless trio of black, metallic grey or white), the Black Edition redefines chic.

Just 30 of these distinctive cross-roaders are available, all built to the Dynamic 5-dr specification level with a choice of the beefy, 177kW Si4 2,0-litre petrol engine, or the hearty, SD4 2,2-litre turbodiesel rated at 140kW. Both are mated to a six-speed transmission.

Apart from the colour palette of Santorini Black, Orkney Grey or Fuji White, further stand-out features of the Black Edition are 20-inch  glossy black forged (rather than merely cast) nine-spoke alloy wheels and the Santorini Black contrast roof. Upper strata street-cred gets ratcheted up still further thanks to darkened front headlamps and foglamps, while the rear lamps of the Black edition models are similarly unique, and have clear lenses.

A sporty tailgate spoiler is standard and is colour-matched to the black roof across the board, as are the exhaust tips. At the other end there’s more colour-coding of the same hue and the front valance and grille are Santorini Black. Finally, in the last phase of removing any bright-metal finishes is the use of black lettering for bonnet and tailgate script.

The Evoque’s bold countenance and distinctive profile with tapered roofline has become familiar since the nameplate arrived on South African soil. It boasts all the signature Range Rover design cues; including the clamshell bonnet, the floating roof and the solid ‘wheel-at-each-corner’ stance.

At the time of its global launch, Land Rover Design Director Gerry McGovern said: “The unique design of the Evoque will attract a new generation of Range Rover customers who have never considered an SUV before, such as premium coupé buyers who would like to make a bold new statement.”

The last two years have proved him right.

Yet Evoque is not just about making a bold statement: it has a wide, deep trunk with a practical and regular shape. The width of the luggage compartment has been optimized to accommodate the full length of a golf bag, with no need to remove the longer clubs. Carefully designed stowage areas under the load floor add extra capacity, while load rails help to secure contents in the luggage compartment. For even more space and flexibility, 60/40 folding rear seat squabs allow the luggage capacity to be expanded quickly and easily, with a substantial volume of 1445 litres available with the rear seats folded.

Like a true Range Rover, the four-wheel-drive Evoque delivers the all-weather, all-surface capability which is a hallmark of the brand.  It has formidable off-road potential, which is enhanced by the company’s signature Terrain ResponseTM system.

Evoque remains the ultimate expression of automotive style, with a profile which is unmistakable. In fact, whichever way you look at it, the Evoque is a stand-out design, but beneath the skin it has the design credentials which come with Range Rover’s 40-year heritage and Land Rover’s 65-year legacy. When launched it repositioned the SUV goalposts thanks to a skill-set which went beyond fashion appeal, and Evoque Black Edition moves them again.
