This afternoon RAF Display Teams arrived at Cotswold Airport in Kemble to join a 250mph Jet Car, which makes its first public appearance this weekend at the Best of British Show on Sunday 26th and Monday 27th August.
Arriving first was the RAF Tucano Display Team followed by the RAF Hawk Display Team who both provided flypasts for the awaiting media. Providing a flypast enroute to RAF Brize Norton was the RAF Tornado Role Demo. After landing Ft Lt Phil Bird, RAF Hawk Display Pilot 2012 spoke of his excitement about being back in The Cotswolds where he grew up.
Making its media preview was the 250mph Stay Gold Jet Dragster. Powered by a high powered after-burner Rolls-Royce Jet Engine this car will accelerate to 250mph in 5 seconds and easily reach peak speeds of around 400mph. The vehicle has been designed to break the UK land speed record and practice runs will begin later this year piloted by David Tremayne at Cotswold Airport. Stay Gold will give spectacular demonstration runs during the Best of British Show.
The Best of British Show is a brand new two-day family event taking place at Cotswold Airport, based in Kemble, Gloucestershire this August Bank Holiday weekend celebrating all that is British for the Jubilee year. The inaugural event combines the most iconic of British culture, innovation, entertainment, food and drink providing visitors with two fun-packed days out combining the Best of British aviation, automotive, agriculture and music.
Suzannah Harvey, Cotswold Airport’s CEO and brainchild for the Best of British Show commented: “The aim is to host a unique event, building on the success of the air shows held at Cotswold Airport (previously Kemble Airfield) for many years. The huge variety of attractions over the weekend provide something a little different from the norm, while flying the flag for Britain.”
RAF Hawk Display Pilot Phil Bird, who grew up in Fairford, added: “After the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and London 2012 Olympics, the Best of British Show is the perfect way to round off a truly patriotic year.”
The Best of British Show will support four charities over the weekend; The RAF Benevolent Fund, Fly2Help, Help for Heroes and the Dogs Trust.
Tickets are available on the gate priced at £20 per adult and £7 per child (aged 5 – 14 years).
