In preparation for its upcoming launch, the new BMW X3 is undergoing its final stage of development at the BMW Group’s testing facility in Miramas, France. This latest iteration of the Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) in the premium mid-range segment is being fine-tuned for optimal chassis control and advanced driver assistance functionalities, ensuring a seamless integration of performance across its highly efficient combustion and innovative plug-in hybrid drivetrains.
During its rigorous and extensive testing phase, which included conditions ranging from icy terrains to scorching heat, the BMW X3 demonstrated its versatility and readiness for everyday driving challenges. Urban traffic, winding country roads, highways, and even race tracks were all part of the vehicle’s testing regimen, proving its adaptability and endurance.
The vehicle benefits from an intelligent lightweight design and enhanced aerodynamics, boasting a drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.27, setting a new benchmark within its class. The BMW X3 also features a wider track and reduced lift at the rear axle, significant improvements in body rigidity, and chassis integration. These enhancements, along with a 19 percent increase in the caster of the front wheels, contribute to superior directional stability and driving dynamics.

The Miramas test center’s diverse facilities, including slalom and off-road courses, have been instrumental in refining the vehicle’s longitudinal and lateral acceleration, suspension, damping, steering precision, and braking capabilities.
An optional Adaptive Chassis with electronically controlled shock absorbers offers customizable driving modes, complemented by the latest BMW Lateral Dynamics Management. This system provides precise steering torque control, wheel slip limitation, and yaw torque distribution, tailored to enhance the driving experience under varying conditions.
The new BMW X3 is also equipped with the latest BMW iDrive based on the BMW Operating System 9, which supports an array of advanced automated driving and parking systems. These include the Active Lane Change Assistant and the Parking and Manoeuvre Assistant, which can be operated remotely via smartphone, showcasing BMW’s commitment to innovation and driver convenience.
This final tuning phase ensures that every aspect of the new BMW X3 is harmoniously integrated, offering a driving experience that embodies precision, sovereignty, and versatility — hallmarks of the BMW brand.
