Polestar has kicked off 2026 with its highest ever first quarter retail sales, delivering an estimated 13,126 cars, marking a 7% increase compared to Q1 2025. This milestone underscores the brand’s strong position in the premium electric vehicle market, even as global conditions present ongoing challenges.
The growth in sales coincides with an aggressive expansion of Polestar’s retail network. By the end of Q1 2026, 230 sales points were operational worldwide, up 50% from 154 at the same point last year. Plans are already underway to increase this number to approximately 250 locations by the end of 2026, further enhancing the brand’s accessibility for customers across key markets.
Michael Lohscheller, Polestar CEO, highlighted the significance of these results: “Following a record 2025, we’ve delivered our highest ever first quarter retail sales figure of 13,126 cars. Growth compared to the first quarter last year totalled 7%, with a strong performance in key markets such as Australia, Germany, Sweden, South Korea and the UK, testament to the hard work of our teams and our established brand position. Our performance in the first quarter has shown resilience, with market conditions becoming more challenging, amid ongoing geopolitical developments.”
In the UK, the brand has seen particularly strong momentum. Matt Galvin, Polestar UK Managing Director, noted that the market remains the fastest growing premium brand, with sales up 12% year-on-year. He pointed to increased consumer interest, driven by what the brand terms 'pump anxiety,' a shift from the traditional ‘charging anxiety,’ alongside a near doubling in pre-owned vehicle sales, allowing more drivers to transition to electric mobility.
Looking ahead, Polestar’s expansion strategy is complemented by an exciting pipeline of new models. The imminent launch of the Polestar 3 SUV and the Polestar 5 Grand Tourer is expected to fuel further growth and reinforce the brand’s position in the competitive EV market.
With a combination of record sales, expanding retail presence, and a growing portfolio of vehicles, Polestar continues to accelerate its mission to redefine the premium electric driving experience worldwide.
