GOTHENBURG, SWEDEN – 8 September 2025 – Polestar has officially unveiled its most ambitious production car yet: the Polestar 5, a four-door performance Grand Tourer that brings the brand’s long-stated vision of design purity, cutting-edge technology, and conscious sustainability into reality.
Born directly from the acclaimed Polestar Precept concept of 2020, the Polestar 5 remains remarkably faithful to that vision, blending Scandinavian minimalism with engineering innovation and extraordinary performance. Available in two highly specified launch editions, prices begin at £89,500 for the Dual Motor and £104,900 for the Performance variant.
A Statement in Design
Measuring just over five metres in length yet standing at only 142cm tall, the Polestar 5 redefines the proportions of the modern GT. Its sleek, wing-like profile, taut surfacing, and Kamm-style tail are inspired by aviation, while signature dual-blade Pixel LED headlights and a SmartZone front module – housing radar and cameras – underscore its technical character.
The car’s Cd of just 0.24 is aided by frameless flush glazing, retractable door handles, and an aero-focused rear diffuser with a continuous light bar. Customers can select from six exterior finishes, including striking matte options such as Storm and Magnesium.
Inside, the cabin delivers a light-filled sanctuary thanks to the largest panoramic glass roof yet fitted to a Polestar, measuring over two metres in length. A staggered 4+1 seating arrangement provides lounge-like comfort for four with the flexibility of a fifth seat when required.
Crafted for Comfort and Consciousness
The interior exemplifies Polestar’s dedication to sustainability and material innovation. Seats developed with Recaro combine deep bolstering with Swedish comfort, available in Charcoal MicroTech or responsibly sourced Bridge of Weir Nappa leather.
Polestar’s unique approach to natural materials is evident throughout. Flax-based composites from BComp™, bio-based alternatives to carbon fibre, reduce weight by up to 40% compared with conventional plastics. Carpets made from Econyl® recycled fishing nets, PET headlining, and mono-material luggage compartments further underline the brand’s circular economy ethos.
Technology integration is seamless: a 14.5-inch central portrait screen powered by Android Automotive OS with Google built-in, a 9-inch driver display mounted to the steering column, and a 9.5-inch head-up display keep information precisely where it’s needed. Optional Bowers & Wilkins audio with 21 speakers and 1,680 Watts transforms the cabin into an acoustic showcase.
Engineering at the Edge
Underpinning the Polestar 5 is the new Polestar Performance Architecture (PPA) – a bonded aluminium platform engineered entirely in-house. The structure delivers torsional rigidity beyond that of many supercars while incorporating 83% aluminium sourced from smelters powered by renewable electricity.
At its core lies a 112kWh 800V lithium-ion battery, providing up to 416 miles (WLTP) of range in the Dual Motor and 351 miles in the Performance edition. Thanks to 350kW DC charging, the 10–80% charge cycle can be completed in as little as 22 minutes.
Performance is equally striking.
- Dual Motor Launch Edition: 550kW (748hp), 812Nm, 0–60mph in 3.8s, range up to 416 miles.
- Performance Launch Edition: 650kW (884hp), 1,015Nm, 0–60mph in 3.1s, range up to 351 miles.
Both variants are electronically limited to 155mph. Sophisticated chassis systems include BWI passive or MagneRide adaptive dampers, lightweight Brembo braking systems, and bespoke Michelin tyres up to 22 inches.

Safety and Intelligence
Safety remains core to Polestar’s philosophy. The SmartZone integrates 11 vision cameras, radar, ultrasonic sensors, and a driver monitoring system to enable features such as Pilot Assist, which can operate up to 93mph. Eight airbags and interior occupant radars ensure the Polestar 5 meets the highest protection standards.
The Flagship Vision Realised
For CEO Michael Lohscheller, the Polestar 5 is nothing less than the brand’s defining moment:
“Polestar 5 is bringing the future to our present. Our vision for Polestar’s design, technology, and sustainability direction is no longer a dream but a reality our customers can buy.”
Ordering
The Polestar 5 Dual Motor Launch Edition starts at £89,500, while the Performance Launch Edition begins at £104,900. Orders are now open in initial launch markets via polestar.com/uk, with first deliveries expected in 2026.
Polestar 5 is not simply a car; it is a culmination of everything the Swedish marque set out to achieve with the Precept concept. A true electric Grand Tourer, it combines the performance of a supercar, the comfort of a luxury saloon, and the conscience of a sustainable design pioneer.
