Polestar has once again set a benchmark in software-driven automotive innovation. The Polestar 4 has been awarded the prestigious SMARTBEST 2026 by the independent AUTOBEST European jury, recognising the brand for “smart connected technologies that significantly enhance the driving experience.” This accolade highlights Polestar’s successful integration of Google Maps’ live lane guidance directly into the driver display, a first for any car with Google built-in.
The AUTOBEST jury, comprised of motoring journalists from 32 European countries, praised the feature as “a significant step forward in intelligent onboard navigation and driver assistance technology.” By presenting live lane guidance in the driver display, Polestar enables drivers to navigate complex highways with confidence. Visual cues and audio prompts highlight the optimal lane for the chosen route and clearly indicate which lane the vehicle is currently in, ensuring smoother and safer lane changes.
Michael Lohscheller, Polestar CEO, expressed his pride at the recognition during the award ceremony in Vienna: “We are delighted by the AUTOBEST SMARTBEST 2026 award. A well-deserved recognition of the work from our dedicated R&D specialists and a testament to our successful and long-standing partnership with Google. Important factors behind Polestar’s leading edge in-car technology, benefitting all our customers.”
This innovation is part of Polestar’s ongoing commitment to continuously enhance its vehicles with new software features as they become available. By combining Google Maps’ advanced navigation and AI with live lane guidance, the Polestar 4 delivers a seamless, intuitive, and intelligent driving experience. Polestar’s approach not only keeps the brand at the forefront of automotive technology but also demonstrates how digital integration can make everyday driving smarter, safer, and more enjoyable.
