13 November 2025, Johannesburg – PEUGEOT, a member of Stellantis South Africa, has reinforced its footprint in the nation’s competitive bakkie market with the launch of the latest PEUGEOT Landtrek. Offered in five versatile derivatives—the Professional Single Cab 4×2, Professional Double Cab 4×2, Active Double Cab 4×4, Allure Double Cab 4×2 AT, and 4Action Double Cab 4×4 AT—the Landtrek is engineered to deliver toughness, versatility, and modern comfort for South African drivers.
But this was no ordinary launch. PEUGEOT set out to prove the Landtrek’s capabilities in the field with the ‘Pretty Tough Challenge: Most Dirt Wins’—a four-day adventure across the rugged terrain of the Eastern Cape, where teams competed not for speed, but for the most dirt kilometres covered.
A True Test of Capability
“The Landtrek was made to be driven where the tar ends,” said Moeketsi Mapogo, Head of ProOne LCV Business Unit for South Africa and SSA. “It is ready for our roads, our people, and our way of life.”
Participants tackled a challenging route beginning in Lady Grey, ascending high mountain passes to Rhodes, navigating through Matatiele, and descending along the Wild Coast to Port St Johns, before finishing at Coffee Bay. Designed to test performance off the tar, the journey put the Landtrek through mountains, rivers, and remote farmlands—real-world conditions that reflect South African lifestyles.
Along the route, PEUGEOT also partnered with a local school and a community nature reserve, delivering essential building materials. The Professional Single Cab, with its class-leading load bed, showcased its practical strength by transporting supplies safely across challenging terrain.
A Milestone for PEUGEOT in South Africa
For PEUGEOT, the Landtrek represents more than a model update—it is a strategic step in growing the brand locally. “Since entering the South African market four years ago, we have seen strong growth and established our brand house,” Mapogo explained. “The Landtrek delivers what South Africans expect from their bakkies—resilience, versatility, comfort, and style—backed by global expertise.”
The Landtrek’s fundamentals are robust: payloads exceed one tonne, towing capacity reaches up to three tonnes, and ground clearance ranges from 214 to 235 mm. The 4×4 variants include a transfer case and differential lock, ensuring confidence even in low-grip conditions.
Inside, the Landtrek blends practicality with modern technology. Drivers enjoy a 10-inch multimedia touchscreen with Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, smart storage solutions, and advanced safety features including six airbags and Trailer Sway Control.
Blending Strength with Style
The Eastern Cape adventure demonstrated that the Landtrek combines rugged capability with PEUGEOT’s signature design DNA. Its vertical grille proudly displays the lion emblem, while distinctive LED lighting and alloy wheels offer a sophisticated aesthetic that suits city streets, farm roads, or off-road trails alike.
“South Africans want a bakkie that works hard during the week and is comfortable on weekends—whether heading into the mountains, the bush, or down to the coast,” said Mapogo. “The Landtrek fits seamlessly into that lifestyle. It’s practical, powerful, modern, and stylish—a true competitor in its segment.”
Confidence in the South African Market
The Landtrek launch underscores PEUGEOT’s confidence in South Africa and its long-term commitment to the local automotive market. It forms part of a broader strategy to bring vehicles shaped by global expertise and fine-tuned for local conditions, delivering on both driving performance and customer expectations.
