H&H Classics has successfully sold almost 100 classic, collectible, and performance cars, worth some £1.5 million at its final physical auction of 2023.
Jaguar, a brand synonymous with British motoring heritage, featured prominently in the sale which took place on 29 November at the Pavilion Gardens, Buxton. The highlight of the day was the 1954 Jaguar XK120 Fixed Head Coupe, previously owned by Patsy Burt, Britain’s renowned female racing driver, which fetched £113,850.
A 1964 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 litre Fixed Head Coupe that had been converted from left- to right-hand drive and fitted with a replacement engine changed hands for £100,500 such was the quality of the restoration it had just emerged from, while a solid but patinated ‘home market’ 1965 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 litre Fixed Head Coupe commanded a more accessible £56,350. Coincidentally, the same price was achieved by an older restored 1970 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 litre Roadster that had been uprated with a S/S exhaust system and electronic ignition.
Damian Jones, senior motorcar specialist at H&H Classics, said, “As we conclude our 30th anniversary year, we’re delighted to see such a high turnout at the Pavilion Gardens. It really is testament to the passion and hard work of the H&H team and the fantastic efforts they have put in on behalf of our vendors.”
A 2002 Noble M12 GTO, offered without reserve and boasting a mere 43,500 miles, achieved a cool £31,050, while a previously refurbished 1934 MG N-Type Magnette sold for £33,500 despite needing recommissioning. The sale of a short wheel base 1966 Porsche 912 restoration project at £28,750, and a high mileage but manual 2005 Porsche 911 Carrera S at £16,100, highlighted the continued appeal of classic German engineering.
Classic lightweight sports cars were also well received. A lovely 1958 Austin Healey 100/6 and a careworn 1954 Austin Healey 100/4 BN1 fetched £41,400 and £28,750 respectively. Meanwhile, Lotus fans saw a smart Carnival Red 1971 Lotus Elan Sprint FHC and a scruffier, no-reserve 1971 Lotus Elan Sprint Drophead Coupe sell for £25,300 and £24,150.
