World Cup-winning Springbok prop Ox Nché has renewed his partnership with Mitsubishi Motors South Africa (MMSA), stepping behind the wheel of the Next-Gen Triton in a spectacular sponsorship event in Durban. Joining him is fellow front-row powerhouse Trevor Nyakane, bringing even more star power to Mitsubishi’s growing roster of sporting ambassadors.
Ox first joined the Mitsubishi family in 2023, shortly after lifting the Rugby World Cup trophy, and has since forged a genuine connection with the brand. His admiration for Mitsubishi is evident, with Lerato Nonyane, General Manager: Product and Marketing at MMSA, noting that Ox even recently purchased a Mitsubishi for a close family member. “Ox is the perfect brand ambassador. His affinity for the brand is genuine,” Nonyane affirms.
At Mitsubishi’s recent Dealer of the Year (DOTY) event, Nché delivered a keynote address, sharing his passion for the Triton and the brand with dealers across the country. Now, he is joined by Nyakane, whose flair both on and off the field – including the iconic dance moves that captured South Africa’s imagination during the 2023 World Cup – aligns perfectly with Mitsubishi’s ethos of working hard and playing hard.
The event was further elevated by the presence of AmaZulu FC stars, goalkeeper Olwethu Mzimela and attacking midfielder Hendrik ‘Pule’ Ekstein, celebrating the new ambassador and showing the breadth of Mitsubishi’s appeal across South African sporting talent.
“Mitsubishi looks forward to continuing to grow these relationships as the pairing prepares to defend their Rugby World Cup title and beyond. We believe the Next-Gen Triton is the perfect vehicle to support these national treasures both on and off the field,” adds Nonyane.
The Bakkie Built for Champions
The Next-Gen Triton has been turning heads in South Africa since its launch over a year ago, combining rugged capability with sleek, modern styling. Designed to meet the demands of urban life, adventure enthusiasts, and professional athletes alike, the Triton offers a versatile model range, exclusive locally tailored editions, and the strongest warranty in its class.
Completely redesigned for its sixth generation, the Triton boasts a new interior and exterior, a reimagined chassis and ladder frame, and an entirely upgraded engine. Its imposing stance is anchored by Mitsubishi’s iconic Dynamic Shield, a three-dimensional front grille, and L-shaped LED daytime running lights that mimic the sharp gaze of a hawk. The three-light headlights beneath add to the vehicle’s commanding road presence.
Inside, the Next-Gen Triton has grown approximately 50mm wider than its predecessor, delivering class-leading shoulder room ideal for front-row rugby stars like Nché and Nyakane. All models offer segment-leading front seat adjustment, while double-cab models provide expansive rear shoulder and knee room, thanks to thoughtfully designed front seat backs. The cabin blends advanced technology with premium comfort, ensuring every journey is as enjoyable as it is capable.
Power, Safety, and Off-Road Mastery
True to Mitsubishi’s reputation, the Next-Gen Triton is built to endure. At the heart of its performance lies the 4N16 DI-DC engine, featuring a variable geometry turbocharger that balances strong acceleration, responsiveness, and efficiency. Producing 135 kW at 3,500 rpm and 430 Nm between 2,250–2,500 rpm, the engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission on all double-cab models, delivering smooth, reliable performance.
Safety is equally robust, with features tailored for South African roads and conditions. The Triton’s Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution Body Construction (RISE) ensures inherent structural protection, while the Super Select II system with Active Yaw Control provides confidence in any driving scenario.
Off-road enthusiasts are catered to by Mitsubishi’s proprietary Super Select 4WD-II technology, offering exceptional all-terrain capability. From muddy tracks to urban commutes, the Triton delivers the versatility and durability expected of a true champion.
For Ox Nché, Trevor Nyakane, and Mitsubishi Motors South Africa, the Next-Gen Triton is more than a vehicle – it is a symbol of strength, endurance, and style, perfectly suited to support these Springbok icons on every adventure, from the rugby field to the open road.
