OMODA & JAECOO have reached a defining moment in their global expansion story, recording 69,892 vehicle sales in April 2026 alone. This represents a remarkable 150% year-on-year increase and builds on March’s performance, when monthly sales first pushed beyond the 60,000-unit mark, signalling sustained momentum rather than a one-off spike.
The real headline, however, sits beyond the monthly numbers. In just three years, OMODA & JAECOO have officially surpassed one million cumulative global sales, making them the fastest automotive marque in the world to reach this milestone. In an industry where brand scale typically builds over decades, this pace reflects a tightly executed global rollout and a product strategy that is clearly resonating across diverse markets.
Electrification has become one of the strongest pillars of this growth. In April, new energy vehicles accounted for 31,643 units globally, up 113% year-on-year. This sharp rise highlights how quickly hybrid and plug-in hybrid models have moved from supporting roles to core growth drivers within the brand’s international portfolio, aligning with global demand for efficiency, flexibility, and reduced emissions without sacrificing performance or design appeal.
Model performance continues to reinforce this trajectory. The JAECOO J5 led the charge with 25,015 global sales in April, followed by the OMODA C5 with 21,518 units. The JAECOO J7 added 17,693 units, collectively underscoring the strength of the brand’s SUV-led lineup and its ability to perform consistently across multiple markets.
In South Africa, OMODA & JAECOO’s electrified strategy is beginning to translate into measurable traction. The SHS hybrid lineup is steadily gaining ground as local consumers show increasing interest in vehicles that combine value, efficiency, and modern design. Year-to-date figures reflect this early adoption, with 148 units for the C7 PHEV, 143 units for the newly launched OMODA C5 hybrid, 128 units for the J7 PHEV, and 108 units for the C9 PHEV. The C5 hybrid’s contribution is particularly notable given its recent market introduction, suggesting strong early appetite among South African buyers.
Shannon Gahagan, National Brand and Marketing Manager for iCAUR South Africa and OMODA & JAECOO South Africa, notes that while global growth is impressive, the real focus lies in local relevance. According to her, South African customers are increasingly drawn to electrified vehicles that deliver strong value and efficiency, without compromising on design, performance, comfort, or safety.
With the OMODA C5 hybrid already on sale and the JAECOO J5 hybrid expected to arrive soon, the brand is set to further expand its electrified offering locally. The J5 Hybrid will become the fifth electrified model in South Africa’s lineup, broadening customer choice and reinforcing OMODA & JAECOO’s momentum in the SUV and electrified vehicle segments.
