OMODA South Africa expands its electrified lineup with the launch of the new C5 SHS, a hybrid variant of its popular C5 range. This marks the brand’s first conventional hybrid electric vehicle (HEV), complementing its existing plug-in hybrid offerings and showcasing OMODA’s commitment to accessible electrification. The C5 SHS blends dynamic styling with under-the-skin enhancements that distinguish it from its conventional petrol siblings.
Powering the C5 SHS is a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine paired with an electric motor, producing a combined 165 kW and 295 N.m of torque. This allows the C5 SHS to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 7.9 seconds, reaching a top speed of 175 km/h. The Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT) ensures power delivery is smooth and efficient, supporting a WLTP-rated fuel consumption of 4.9 L/100 km and CO2 emissions of 111 g/km. With a 1.83 kWh LFP battery and a 51-litre fuel tank, drivers can cover over 1,000 km on a single tank.
Handling and ride quality are refined through a MacPherson strut front suspension and a multilink rear setup, while disc brakes all around, including ventilated front discs, provide confident stopping power. The C5 SHS rides on 18-inch alloy wheels with 215/55 tyres, complemented by red-painted brake calipers that subtly hint at the model’s performance credentials.
Inside, the C5 SHS elevates the driving experience with a symmetrical dashboard layout and a bridge-style centre console that maximizes storage and integrates seamlessly with the cabin design. Dual 12.3-inch screens provide intuitive control over connectivity, entertainment, and vehicle settings, including wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Front occupants enjoy power-adjustable sports seats with heating and ventilation, while dual-zone climate control and rear air vents ensure comfort for all passengers. A multi-colour ambient lighting system, acoustic glass, and an eight-speaker Sony sound system further enhance the interior environment.
OMODA has not compromised on convenience or practicality. Standard features include a power-operated boot lid, 60/40 split-folding rear seats expanding boot capacity from 372 to 1,072 litres, keyless entry with push-button start, roof rails, power-adjustable side mirrors with auto-fold function, and a 50W wireless phone charger. Exterior design highlights include LED headlights, daytime running lights, and a sunroof, while paint options include Bloodstone Red, Carbon Crystal Black, Khaki White, Phantom Grey, and two dual-tone finishes: Carbon Crystal Black with Aerial Silver or Khaki White.
Safety remains a cornerstone of the C5 SHS. It carries forward the five-star Euro NCAP crash rating achieved by the C5 in 2022, with seven airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchorages, electronic stability programme, and brake-force distribution as standard. Advanced driver assistance systems include front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane change assist, providing confidence and peace of mind on every journey.
Shannon Gahagan, National Brand and Marketing Manager at OMODA & JAECOO South Africa, emphasizes that the C5 SHS combines advanced hybrid technology with premium specification and accessible pricing, appealing to motorists who want both performance and efficiency. Launch pricing is set at R469,900 for the first month, with official pricing at R479,900, including a five-year/75,000 km service plan, a five-year/150,000 km factory warranty, and a 10-year/one-million km engine warranty linked to the first owner. The C5 SHS is available from 8 April 2026 at OMODA and JAECOO dealerships nationwide.
