After a turbulent start to the 2024 rally season, the South African motorsport community is gearing up for the long-awaited return of the NTT Tzaneen Rally, now confirmed for 27–28 June. Originally slated for May, the event was postponed due to persistent and unprecedented rainfall that rendered the rally stages impassable. This followed last year’s cancellation caused by dangerous veld fires, making this year’s rally a much-anticipated comeback.
Now, with more favourable conditions forecast and a renewed sense of momentum, the NTT Tzaneen Rally is set to reignite the excitement for both fans and competitors alike.
“We’re thrilled to see the event return this year, with organizers and sponsors working tirelessly to ensure a safe and successful rally,” said the event organizers.

A Return to Rallying Tradition
First held in 1971, the Tzaneen Rally has become one of the cornerstone events in the South African National Rally Championship (SANRC). Known for its fast, technical stages carved through the breathtaking Merensky plantations of Limpopo, the rally offers a uniquely challenging terrain for drivers and co-drivers.
This year’s edition will mark Rounds 1 and 2 of the SANRC, as well as a key event in the Northern Regions Regional Rally Championship—providing a crucial opportunity for teams to secure early championship points.
Bigger, Better, and Backed by the Community
Beyond the dust and the drama of the forest stages, this year’s rally will also benefit from expanded community engagement and increased sponsor involvement. Organisers are pulling out all the stops to create an even more immersive experience for fans, with local support playing a pivotal role in bringing the rally back to life.
From grassroots volunteers to long-standing sponsors like NTT, the collective effort behind the 2024 rally underscores the importance of motorsport in the region—and its power to unite communities around a shared passion for performance.
What to Expect: High-Speed Action and Top Talent
Spectators can look forward to two days of adrenaline-fuelled rallying, with South Africa’s top rally teams descending on Tzaneen for their shot at early-season glory. With the natural beauty of the Merensky forests as a backdrop, expect a spectacle of precision driving, thundering engines, and fierce competition.
Whether you’re a lifelong rally enthusiast or a curious newcomer, the 2024 NTT Tzaneen Rally promises to deliver a high-octane weekend of motorsport magic.
