In a remarkable showcase of durability and innovation, the Daring Africa 2024 expedition, featuring a convoy of five Nissan Navara pick-ups and an X-Trail SUV, has made a significant stop in Maputo, Mozambique. This journey marks the second phase of Nissan’s ambitious trek across the African continent.
Nissan’s Managing Director for South Africa and Independent Markets Africa, Maciej Klenkiewicz, highlighted the expedition’s purpose as a homage to the company’s African-manufactured vehicles, particularly the Navara. “This expedition serves to connect our Navara production hub in South Africa with our Passenger Vehicle assembly in Cairo. It’s a celebration of our African workforce and a chance to display our robust partner network across the continent,” Klenkiewicz explained.
Ivan Busi, Nissan Mozambique’s Managing Director, expressed his enthusiasm for hosting the convoy. He underscored the Navara’s significance to the Mozambican market, praising its adaptability, durability, and comfort. Busi is thrilled to demonstrate the Navara’s capabilities across Mozambique’s scenic landscapes and challenging terrains.

The expedition’s next leg includes an immersive experience for select media and Nissan Mozambique’s key fleet clients. They will drive the Navara along the coast to Chidenguele and Inhassoro, showcasing the vehicle’s performance. The journey will also feature a fireside chat with local executives to discuss Nissan’s vision for Africa.
Busi also highlighted the importance of the Daring Africa 2024 initiative for Nissan Mozambique. The company not only sells the entire Nissan range, including the Navara, but also supports its customers through an extensive dealership network across major cities. These dealerships have recently been upgraded to meet Nissan’s global standards.
The Daring Africa expedition embarked from Rosslyn, the home of Nissan Africa’s Navara production, on an eight-country adventure that will conclude in Cairo. After Mozambique, the journey will continue through Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania, and Kenya, before reaching Egypt.
Klenkiewicz emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating, “Daring Africa 2024 is not just an exhibition of the Navara in our current markets but also an opportunity to introduce it to new markets in North Africa. We’re committed to expanding the Navara’s presence and celebrating our pick-up legacy across the continent.”
Last year, Nissan Africa expanded the Navara’s market to Algeria and Libya, with plans to launch in Egypt later this year, further solidifying Nissan’s footprint and commitment to the African continent.
