The Nissan Townstar has set a brilliant tone for the year by being crowned Small Electric Van of the Year for 2025 by the esteemed automotive publication, Company Car and Van. This latest triumph follows in the footsteps of last year’s recognition, where the electric version of Townstar also received the same honour.

The accolade, bestowed by the respected Company Car and Van, underscores the Townstar’s consistent excellence and value within the competitive small van segment. The award is a testament to Nissan’s engineering expertise, providing businesses with a compact yet highly capable vehicle that offers both versatility and efficiency.

A Well-Deserved Victory

In announcing the win, Company Car and Van editor, Andrew Walker, highlighted Townstar’s suitability for anyone in the market for a small light commercial vehicle (LCV). His praise of the vehicle was high, citing its blend of practicality, comfort, and performance.

“Townstar drives like a small car and features some clever storage solutions in the load area and the spacious cabin,” Walker commented. “Furthermore, it’s quiet, comfortable, well-equipped, safe, and frugal. With the option of both petrol and electric powertrains, and two different lengths, it’s future-proofed as well.”

The Townstar’s appeal is multifaceted, offering a unique combination of attributes that make it a standout choice in the LCV segment. From its excellent driving dynamics to its cutting-edge features, Townstar remains a firm favourite among businesses seeking a dependable and efficient vehicle.

Innovative Technology and Practical Design

Townstar’s capabilities extend beyond its driving experience. Successor to the highly-regarded e-NV200, the new Townstar continues Nissan’s legacy of innovation in the small van category. It integrates more than 20 advanced technologies, with a range of safety systems and driver assistance features that elevate the driving experience and safety standards.

The van’s carrying capacity is equally impressive. The L1 version provides up to 3.3 cubic metres of load space—equivalent to two Euro pallets—while the L2, with its extended wheelbase, offers a generous 4.3 cubic metres. Additionally, the L2 features a wide-opening side loading door of 831mm, enhancing ease of access to the cargo area. Townstar’s towing capabilities are equally remarkable, with all versions offering a maximum braked towing capacity of 1,500kg.

A Commitment to Quality and Reliability

Nissan’s commitment to quality and peace of mind is evident in the Townstar’s comprehensive warranty package. Owners benefit from a five-year or 100,000-mile warranty, including roadside assistance. The electric variant comes with an additional eight-year or 100,000-mile battery warranty, underscoring Nissan’s dedication to offering long-lasting, reliable vehicles.

Leading the Charge in Electric Mobility

The Townstar EV, in particular, stands out with its advanced electric powertrain. Optimised for intelligent energy management and featuring state-of-the-art battery thermal cooling technology, the EV delivers a class-leading zero-emission range of up to 183 miles on the WLTP Combined cycle. On the City Cycle, the range extends even further, reaching up to 269 miles. This impressive range, combined with Townstar’s practicality, makes it one of the most capable and versatile electric commercial vehicles on the market.

A Great Start to the Year for Nissan

“We couldn’t be more delighted to start 2025 with another accolade for Townstar,” said a Nissan spokesperson. “It is a vehicle we are incredibly proud of, and it is wonderful that it continues to receive recognition in awards schemes.”

With its advanced safety features, versatile configurations, and impressive capabilities, the Nissan Townstar is proving to be a vehicle that ticks all the boxes for modern businesses. As the year unfolds, this award further cements Townstar’s position as a leader in the small van segment, meeting the needs of both drivers and businesses across the UK and beyond.

The success of Townstar is more than just an accolade—it’s a reflection of Nissan’s ongoing commitment to delivering vehicles that offer exceptional value, innovation, and reliability. As the business landscape continues to evolve, the Townstar is ready to serve businesses for years to come, making it a must-have on any fleet manager’s shopping list.
