As the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship heads to Miami for Round 5 this weekend, the Nissan Formula E Team is geared up to extend its strong momentum from a stellar start to the season. For the first time since the series’ debut year in 2015, Formula E returns to the vibrant city of Miami, and the Japanese team is more than ready to take on the challenge at the Homestead-Miami Speedway.

A Strong Start to the Season

Season 11 of the Formula E championship has been nothing short of sensational for the Nissan Formula E Team. Oliver Rowland has emerged as a dominant force, securing two wins in the opening four races, which has placed him at the top of the driver standings. His impressive form has helped propel Nissan to the front of both the Teams’ and Manufacturers’ Championships, making them the team to beat.

Norman Nato, Rowland’s teammate, has been equally impressive, particularly in the United States. The Frenchman has consistently finished in the top 10 during his previous trips to New York and Portland, and he’s aiming to continue his streak of strong performances on American soil.

A Challenging Circuit Awaits

Homestead-Miami Speedway, a track familiar to fans of American motorsport, will serve as the backdrop for the race. Known for hosting a variety of major racing events, the venue’s technical infield road course presents unique challenges for the drivers. With a combination of high-speed sections and tight corners, the track is expected to deliver thrilling action. Overtaking opportunities will be crucial, particularly at Turns 1, 6, and 8, where drivers will battle for position in what promises to be an exciting and dynamic race.

This race is especially significant for Nissan, as the United States remains the company’s largest market. With Nissan’s North American headquarters based in Franklin, Tennessee, the stakes are high, and the team is eager to deliver a strong result in front of its most important market.

Preparing for the Challenge

Team Principal Tommaso Volpe reflected on the team’s preparation for the upcoming race: “We’re proud to arrive in such a key market for Nissan while leading all three championships. We’ve been working hard during the break to ensure we maintain our position. While there’s still fine-tuning to do, we’re confident we’ve identified the key performance factors. We expect a peloton-style race, but we’re targeting a strong result and will push for the best possible outcome.”

Oliver Rowland’s Continued Focus

Rowland, the championship leader, has maintained his calm and focus during the off-season. “It’s been a good break for me,” Rowland said. “I’ve kept busy with driver coaching, so I’m feeling refreshed and ready to go again. The start to the season has been great, but my goals for each race remain the same. I’m excited for Miami and for what’s to come – especially given the long lap and the strategy required. Energy management is key, and I’m looking forward to putting that to the test.”

Norman Nato’s Strategy for Success

Nato is approaching the Miami race with a calm and focused mindset after a well-deserved break. “It’s been a quiet time off, and now I’m ready to go flat out until the end of the season,” Nato said. “A new track is always an opportunity to perform strongly, and with no previous reference points, it’ll be important to hit the ground running in Free Practice. We expect a strategic race, and we’ve been working hard to understand the best approach for the weekend.”

Sérgio Sette Câmara’s Insights from the Simulator

Sérgio Sette Câmara, the team’s reserve and simulator driver, has been instrumental in preparing the team for the unknowns of the new circuit. “The simulator time is crucial, especially when facing a new track,” he said. “This is one of the trickiest circuits I’ve encountered due to its high-speed nature. It’s a track that will offer great racing, with plenty of opportunities for strategy calls and position changes. It will be thrilling to see it all unfold live.”

Race Weekend Schedule

Track action for the Nissan Formula E Team begins on Friday at 16:30 (UTC-4), with qualifying scheduled for 09:40 on Saturday, followed by the race at 14:00. With the team in prime position at the top of the championship standings, the Miami E-Prix promises to be another exciting chapter in an already thrilling season.

As the Nissan Formula E Team lines up for its first-ever race in Miami, the eyes of the motorsport world will be on them as they look to continue their dominant start to the 2024/25 season.
