- Nissan e-NV200 prototype picks up fleet Environment Award
- First award for next model in Nissan’s EV range
Nissan’s e-NV200 prototype has picked up its first award, the Environment Award in the 2012 Van Fleet World Honours, more than 12 months before it goes on sale.
Van Fleet World editor, John Kendall, said: “If there are two obvious vehicle types where electric power could make serious inroads, it would have to be in the delivery and commuter vehicle sectors. Nissan flicked the electric switch first with the LEAF and the e-NV200 prototype has adopted the same basic technology and applied it to a delivery vehicle. You can’t go out and buy one yet, but Nissan has been conducting trials with FedEx and British Gas, part of the company’s global proving test with the vehicle. Range can be extended by rapid charging which can boost the batteries to 80 per cent of full charge in 30 minutes.”
The Nissan e-NV200 prototype is a near-production version of a battery electric compact van based on the popular Nissan NV200. It offers a highly responsive, easy and impressive driving experience which is far superior to traditional fossil fuel powered vehicles.
The production version is expected to offer a driving range very similar to Nissan’s electric passenger car the LEAF, whilst combining outstanding cargo space similar to the current NV200 compact van. In line with the Nissan LEAF, the Nissan e-NV200 prototype also offers excellent energy efficiency – a critical factor for any owner.
James Douglas, corporate sales director, Nissan Motor (GB) Ltd commented: “The e-NV200 prototype has been designed to provide businesses with functional and roomy interior space, while producing zero CO2 at the point of use. We are currently conducting a global trial of the e-NV200 prototype as part of our process of making continuous enhancements to the vehicle before unveiling the production vehicle and so far it has been received extremely well. The award from Van Fleet World is a reflection that we are working towards developing the perfect cost and energy saving vehicle for the van sector.”
The Van Fleet World Honours are presented annually to those motor manufacturers, service companies and individuals who have, in the opinion of the judges, achieved the highest possible level of excellence in their sector.
The awards are open to all motor manufacturers and the judging process combines the expert opinion of the Van Fleet World editorial team with the values provided by a number of leading leasing companies and fleet data providers.
