London, UK / Gräfelfing, Germany – 28 May 2025
In a move that strengthens its position as a digital-first electric mobility brand, NIO has announced the rollout of advanced on-street parking functionality for all current European models. Enabled through a strategic collaboration with Parkopedia, a global leader in digital parking services, this feature is part of the latest ‘Banyan 2.4.1’ software update, delivering a smoother and smarter navigation experience to NIO drivers across Europe.
The new functionality, which will be available via a navigation app update on the recently launched NIO App Store, integrates real-time Parkopedia data directly into NIO’s onboard systems. The result is a seamlessly connected service that allows drivers to access detailed information about nearby street parking—covering availability, pricing, local restrictions, and accepted payment methods—all from the comfort of their vehicle’s cockpit.
With 92% of drivers worldwide reporting difficulties in finding parking and 77% expressing a desire for integrated parking services in vehicles (according to the latest Global Driver Survey), the need for innovative solutions has never been more apparent. NIO, now approaching 750,000 cumulative deliveries and enjoying a nearly 50% increase in year-on-year sales for 2025, is responding to this demand with a forward-thinking approach to connected services.
Turning Frustration into Convenience
The core of the feature lies in the visual integration of Parkopedia’s on-street data within the vehicle’s navigation system. Streets are colour-coded to reflect the likelihood of finding a parking spot—light blue sections denote lower availability, while darker blue streets suggest a higher probability of finding a space. This level of detail empowers drivers to make informed decisions on the fly, reducing the stress often associated with urban driving and last-mile navigation.
Beyond simply locating spaces, the system provides granular information about each parking zone, including hourly charges, time-based restrictions, and accepted payment types. Whether it’s a business meeting in Berlin or a leisurely weekend in Lisbon, drivers will have the tools they need to plan smarter and arrive calmer.
A Broader Update to the NIO Experience
The on-street parking functionality arrives as part of the ‘Banyan 2.4.1’ update, a comprehensive package that reflects NIO’s commitment to continuous software evolution. Delivered over-the-air, the update introduces not only Parkopedia integration but also improvements in driver assistance features, enhanced voice control, upgraded media streaming capabilities, and a suite of new apps available via the NIO App Store.
“Our collaboration with Parkopedia reflects NIO’s vision for a more intuitive and intelligent driving experience,” said a NIO spokesperson. “We’re not just building cars—we’re building a digital ecosystem that makes everyday mobility simpler, smarter and more enjoyable.”
Markus Dohl, VP Europe at Parkopedia, echoed the sentiment: “Finding available parking across Europe can be a stressful process, so we are pleased to empower NIO in providing a seamless in-car parking experience for its European drivers. Taking the stress out of the parking process and improving the driving experience requires extensive, high-quality base data, and this is why Parkopedia prides itself on only providing unparalleled complete and verified data.”
The Road Ahead
As electric vehicles continue to evolve into platforms for connected lifestyles, NIO’s latest move underscores a broader industry trend: the fusion of mobility and digital convenience. With Parkopedia’s expertise and NIO’s visionary technology, the future of parking looks not only more efficient—but far less stressful.
For drivers in Europe, the update promises a tangible benefit: fewer frustrating laps around the block, and more time enjoying the journey.
