It is this time of the year, New Year’s Eve, what a happy time – New Years Eve is a time to put behind the old one and celebrate the New Year.

Happy dance music and lots of bright colors creates an instant fun and happy atmosphere when your party guests arrive. The following ideas and party games will get you started off to a good start, if you are planning a New Year’s Eve party.

If you invited guest who don’t know each other and you need to break the ice there are lots of games you can play.

Here are some New Years Games to play:

New Year Question and answer Games

  • make sure you have enough cards for each guest
  • On half the cards write down “Icebreakers questions” and on the other half of the cards the answers. As soon as the guest arrive let them choose a question card or answer card.
  • Each guest who chose a question card must ask the guest the question until he/she get the right answer.
  • This way, people will introduce themselves to each other via New Year games!

New Year Games: Find the guest names

  • This New Year game is an ideal way of remembering the guest names and will soon put everyone in a party mood!
  • Let your guest stands in a circle
  • The first person must say their name as well as something they like starting with the same Initial as their name. Example: “Hi my name is Pete and I love pies”
  • Now, the second person must introduce himself as well as the First person. Example: Hi this is Pete and he loves pies, and my name is Anne and I love apples”
  • Everybody in the circle must get a change to introduce himself from the first person (Pete). If it is a large circle of friends, it could be a little bit difficult but everybody can help. This game helps to jog the memory and your guest will laugh a lot and enjoy their selves.

New Year Games: Party Guest First impressions

  • This game is a great New Years Eve game to play, get all your party guest to write down their first impression of one another.
  • As your friends arrive tape a piece of card onto their back and give them a pen or pencil
  • Your friends must write their first impression on the card that you tape on their back
  • But the fun is to write witty and cool comments, for example sexy figure, seductive smile lovely legs, nice eyes etc.
  • As soon as that all the cards on the back have been written on ask each guest to read out the card on the back of the guest beside them.

New Year’s Party decorations that you might like to try out:

  • Lighting gives that sparkling atmosphere to your New Year’s Party. Light up your house with color or white lights.
  • A Horseshoe on the door mean good luck
  • Streamers and ribbons create a festive look and feel.
  • String colorful chains around the rooms.
  • Colorful flowers
  • Bright napkins and Table mats.
  • Bunches of white, silver and black balloons.
  • Use a funnel and fill balloons with confetti and pop the balloons at midnight.
  • Fill the balloons with fortunes, for example: you will find love this year.
  • A piñata filled with candy and toys can also be use as party games.

New Year’s Resolution Game

With this game, you must write as much as you can New Year’s Resolutions on a slip of paper. You can make it serious or silly. Put all the New Year’s Resolution papers in a basket. Let all your guest must take one. If they don’t like the New Year Resolution, they must try to give it to someone else. Let them read out their New Year Resolution out to the other guests, using the words “I resolve…”

New Years Eve Dress to suit the hat Party Game

Get large collections of different types of hats. Give each of your guests a hat. The game is that they must react or speak as they imagine the owner of that type of hat would behave. They can go so far and give themselves a new name or an accent.

New Year’s Eve Party Food

People believe that New Years food is bringing luck! Some cultures believe that any type of food in a ring shape is good luck, for the reason that it symbolized “the full circle” completing in a year. The Dutch loved to eat donuts on New Year’s Eve

In some parts of America celebrate the New Year by cooking black-eyed peas, accompanies by hog jowls or ham. Many cultures believed that Black-eyed peas are good luck and symbolized prosperity. Another Good Luck vegetable is Cabbage, and rice in other regions.
