Following the launch of the all-new, revolutionary Subaru WRX in May 2014, the hard-charging and iconic WRX STI is due to reach South African roads in July in limited numbers and at an exceptionally value-focused price. Revered in the motoring world as one of the most focused and exciting performance carsand having made its debut at this year’s North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the all-new WRX STI emulates previous generations which build on WRX merits like everyday practicality and value for money, while adding a healthy dose of power and improved handling for the ultimate performance sedan which can still be used on a daily basis.
Its history steeped in international motorsport including WRC and in more recent years circuit racing, the new Subaru WRX STI continues to feature the unmistakable elements which have always culminated in a practical family vehicle and a track driving enthusiast’s dream car. Featuring the motorsport-proven and award-winning EJ25 2.5-litre turbocharged Boxer® petrol engine (now producing 221 kW at 6 000 rpm and 407 Nm at 4 000 rpm), Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive™, multi-mode Driver-Controlled Centre Differential (DCCD) and design cues like the wide body kit, infamous rear wing and signature bonnet scoop, the new WRX STI is set to continue the legend, unabated. Like the new WRX, the new WRX STI also featured Active Torque Vectoring for the first time, allowing for unprecedented levels of grip, control and handling precision.
Available in one derivative only, the all-new Subaru WRX STI Premium is fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox and mirrors the new WRX’s high levels of standard equipment, comfort and safety. The WRX STI also carries a 5-star ANCAP safety rating and the IIHS Top Safety Pick accolade – thanks to safety features like seven airbags and Ring-Shaped Reinforcement™.
