Renault has unveiled the all-new Duster, a next-generation compact SUV designed to capture the imagination of Indian drivers with its combination of robust capability, modern design, and advanced technology. With a fully redesigned interior, high-tech connectivity, and efficient new powertrains—including India’s first Renault full hybrid—the New Duster is poised to continue its legacy as a benchmark in the segment.

Since its global debut in 2010, the Duster has become a symbol of freedom and versatility, winning the loyalty of nearly two million customers worldwide. Launched in India in 2012, it helped define the country’s compact SUV (B+) segment, now one of the market’s most vibrant, accounting for 14% of passenger car sales in 2025. Over 200,000 Indian customers have embraced Duster’s combination of robustness, affordability, and driving enjoyment, establishing it as a trusted reference for adventure and practicality.

A Strategic Focus on India

India has emerged as the world’s third-largest automotive market, with SUVs now representing almost 55% of passenger car sales, up from just 12% in 2012. Renault recognizes this strategic importance, and the new Duster has been tailored to meet the demands of Indian customers as part of the Renault International Game Plan 2027. It will go on sale in India in spring 2026, with subsequent launches planned for South Africa and the Gulf States.

Renault’s investment in India underscores its commitment to the market, with the Chennai plant serving as a key industrial hub. Since opening in 2008, the facility has assembled over three million vehicles, including 1.2 million for export to more than 100 countries, and has produced 4.6 million engines and gearboxes. The plant currently manufactures Renault Triber and Kiger. Renault’s local ecosystem is further supported by the Renault Design Center Chennai, a joint engineering centre with Nissan, and a network of over 350 dealerships and 450 service outlets across India.

Modern, Expressive Design

The New Duster retains the rugged spirit of its predecessor while introducing a more sophisticated, contemporary look. Its muscular proportions, strong shoulder lines, and 21.2 cm ground clearance convey robustness and off-road readiness. At the front, a trapezoidal grille flanked by full LED headlights provides a modern face, while a horizontal LED light strip at the rear accentuates width and stability. SUV-specific features such as lower body protection, skid plates, pronounced wheel arches, roof rails, and sculpted bumpers combine style and functionality, with aerodynamics and assembly quality carefully optimised.

Measuring 4.34 meters long, 1.81 meters wide, and 1.66 meters high, with a 2.66-meter wheelbase, the New Duster balances compact exterior dimensions with a spacious interior. Approach and departure angles of 25.7° and 29.2° complement reinforced chassis stiffness and engine protection, preserving the vehicle’s go-anywhere capability. Six exterior colours will be offered at launch, including the new Jade Mountain Green inspired by the Himalayan forest, with a two-tone option also available.

Redesigned Cabin with Next-Level Technology

Inside, the New Duster delivers a modern, comfortable, and highly connected environment. The horizontal dashboard features the OpenR twin-screen display, combining a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster (7-inch on entry-level models) and a 10.1-inch central touchscreen for multimedia and connected services. Google Automotive Services provide access to Google Maps, Google Assistant, and the Google Play catalogue directly through the OpenR link system, a first in its class.

The cabin has been designed for convenience and comfort, featuring an e-Shifter gear control, electric parking brake, induction charging pad, multiple USB-C ports, a cooled storage compartment, and total interior storage of 33 litres. Power-adjustable ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control with PM2.5 filtration and ioniser, and improved acoustic insulation enhance the comfort of driver and passengers alike. Rear occupants benefit from generous legroom, dedicated air vents, and a panoramic sunroof, while the boot offers 518 litres of space, expanding to 1,789 litres with the rear seats folded.

Advanced Powertrains and Driving Experience

The New Duster’s powertrain range is led by the E-Tech 160 full hybrid, combining a 1.8-litre Atkinson-cycle petrol engine with two electric motors and a multimode automatic gearbox. Producing 160 hp with a 1.4 kWh battery, it allows urban driving in all-electric mode up to 80% of the time, reducing fuel consumption by up to 40% and offering a total range of approximately 620 miles.

Two additional petrol engines complement the range: the 1.0-litre Turbo TCe 100 delivering 100 hp and 160 Nm of torque with a six-speed manual, and the 1.3-litre Turbo TCe 160 producing 160 hp and 280 Nm, available with a manual or DCT transmission. Suspension tuning balances comfort and stability with McPherson front struts and a rear torsion beam, delivering confident performance on highways and uneven surfaces alike.

Safety and Driver Assistance

Renault equips the New Duster with 17 advanced driver assistance systems, including adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go, lane keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition, and driver attention monitoring. Parking and low-speed manoeuvres are assisted by a 360° camera system, Flank Protection technology, and front, rear, and side sensors. Automatic high beams and weather recognition further enhance safety, with all systems configurable via the central touchscreen or My Safety Switch.

Conclusion

The all-new Renault Duster represents a bold reinvention of an iconic SUV. With its modern design, high-tech interior, versatile powertrains, and comprehensive safety features, it is engineered to meet the evolving needs of Indian drivers while preserving the adventurous DNA that has made Duster a global success. Its launch in spring 2026 marks the next chapter in Renault’s journey, combining heritage, innovation, and aspiration in a single, compelling package.
