Outstanding Performance in All Safety Categories
Volkswagen’s All-Rounder Provides Exceptional Child Protection
The New Generation Passat Earns Coveted Five-Star Rating
Wolfsburg – Volkswagen’s latest iteration of the Passat has earned the prestigious five-star rating in the Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Programme) safety tests, affirming its status as one of the top mid-sized models of 2024. This marks the third time the Passat has received the highest accolade from Euro NCAP, following similar achievements in 2010 and 2014.
Entering its ninth generation, the Passat continues Volkswagen’s legacy of excellence. Exclusively available as an estate model, the Passat has impressed Euro NCAP experts with its comprehensive suite of safety innovations.
The Euro NCAP safety assessment, an independent evaluation by a renowned European consumer protection institute, measures performance across four key categories. The Passat excelled in Adult Occupant Protection, securing a 93% rating. It also performed exceptionally well in Child Occupant Protection (87%), Vulnerable Road Users (83%), and Safety Assist (80%).

Standard Assist Systems for Enhanced Safety
Even at the base level, the Passat comes equipped with numerous advanced assist systems at no extra cost. These include Side Assist (lane change system), Lane Assist (lane keeping system), ACC stop & go (Adaptive Cruise Control), oncoming vehicle braking when turning function, Park Distance Control (acoustic and visual warnings for obstacles), Rear View (rear view camera system), Dynamic Road Sign Display using the front camera, and LED headlights and tail lights.
Advanced Safety Features Inside and Out
A standout feature is the Autonomous Emergency Braking Front Assist with Pedestrian and Cyclist Monitoring, enhancing protection for vulnerable road users during potential collisions. The exit warning system further bolsters safety, preventing occupants from opening doors when another vehicle or cyclist is approaching from behind, issuing both acoustic and visual warnings.
Another significant innovation is Car2X technology, which allows the Passat to communicate with other vehicles and traffic infrastructure about local hazards, further enhancing safety.
A Perfect Blend of Business and Family Utility
The Passat is designed to be both a premium business car and an ideal family vehicle, with a strong emphasis on child safety. In both frontal and side impact tests, the Passat provided excellent protection for all critical body areas of child dummies, earning maximum scores.
In response to stricter Euro NCAP criteria introduced in 2023, the new Passat also includes features such as child detection systems, ensuring no child is left unattended in the vehicle.
An Enduring Bestseller
With over 34 million units sold in its more than 50-year history, the Passat remains a top choice in Europe, particularly the estate version. In 2023, the Passat Variant led the mid-sized class in Germany with 45,494 new registrations, demonstrating its enduring popularity.
