(Nissan South Africa, Wednesday, 13 November 2024) – Building on its reputation as a robust and stylish compact SUV, the New Nissan Magnite arrives in South Africa as its first stop on an expansive African tour. After a successful global relaunch in India, the enhanced Magnite has set its sights on the African market, making a confident entrance with a series of press and influencer events in Cape Town.
The Magnite, initially introduced in 2020, quickly cemented itself in the subcompact SUV category, attracting over 150,000 buyers worldwide. Since its South African launch in 2021, this eye-catching SUV has amassed sales of approximately 26,000 units, a testament to its appeal among local drivers seeking style, capability, and advanced features.
An Important Milestone for Nissan Africa’s Vision
Jordi Vila, Nissan Africa President, explains that the updated Magnite aligns with Nissan’s “Arc” business strategy, which aims to expand the brand’s African presence with models tailored to regional demands. “The New Magnite is a key pillar of the Arc, Nissan’s mid-term business plan and a major milestone in Nissan Africa’s product strategy,” says Vila, who views the new model as an opportunity to strengthen Nissan’s presence in both right- and left-hand-drive markets across Africa.
Maciej Klenkiewicz, Managing Director of Nissan South Africa and Independent Markets Africa, expresses enthusiasm for the new model, highlighting that the revamped Magnite is engineered to appeal to a new generation of drivers. “We pride ourselves at Nissan on being innovative and providing mobility solutions across the market,” states Klenkiewicz, who anticipates the Magnite will continue its momentum in the local market.
Striking Design, Elevated Tech, and Enhanced Comfort
The Magnite’s dynamic exterior styling—marked by bold LED lights, alloy wheels, and functional roof rails—remains largely unchanged, but the new model brings a host of technological upgrades. Key features include a configurable TFT driver display, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, enhancing connectivity for on-the-go drivers. An added touch of luxury is found in the four-color ambient lighting system, allowing occupants to personalize the interior atmosphere.
Interior enhancements include a cooled glove box and an innovative on-board air ionizer, a thoughtful addition for passengers with allergies or respiratory sensitivities. The Magnite also introduces a remote engine start feature and convenient walk-away lock and approach unlock functions, designed for ease and security.

Safety and Performance Refined for African Roads
In response to growing safety demands, the updated Magnite boasts reinforced high-tensile steel in its structure and six airbags standard across all models. Features like an auto-dimming rearview mirror provide added convenience and reduce glare during night driving.
The Magnite’s performance is powered by two 1.0-litre engine options—one naturally aspirated and one turbocharged—each delivering a balance of power and fuel efficiency. With an option between manual, automated manual (AMT), or continuously variable transmission (CVT), the Magnite adapts to diverse driving styles and conditions, proving equally suited to city commutes and weekend getaways.
The suspension system has been fine-tuned for stability and comfort, utilizing MacPherson strut suspension with anti-roll bars at the front and semi-independent coil spring suspension at the rear, allowing for a smooth, controlled ride over challenging terrains. This combination of power and precision ensures a comfortable, calm journey, even in less forgiving environments.
Ideal for Urban Explorers with Advanced Parking Assistance
Designed with urban mobility in mind, the Magnite comfortably seats five and offers ample legroom, making it ideal for family outings or group adventures. For city dwellers, the Around View Monitor provides a bird’s-eye perspective from four cameras, simplifying parking in tight spaces and busy areas.
