The new Chevrolet Aveo Hatchback makes its entry in the South African vehicle market as a significant upgrade on the model it replaces. Bold styling imparts a sporty image and in length and width the Aveo Hatch boasts the biggest dimensions in the class.
The fresh design is an extensive revision of the previous model with only the windscreen, roof dome, and door outer panels carried over from the earlier generation vehicle. Both internally and externally the new Aveo Hatchback offers significant advances over its predecessor. On the road it offers a smooth, comfortable ride with precise handling and a high level of built in safety.
As with the Aveo Sedan, this new generation small Chevrolet hatch was developed in South Korea by GM DAT with assistance from the GM’s Pan Asia Technical Automotive Centre (PATAC) based in Shanghai, China. Like its sedan sibling, the new 5-door Aveo provides an example of GM’s utilisation of global resources to provide a range of advanced products tailored for specific markets.
Power comes from an enhanced version of GM’s 1.6 litre Ecotec engine with multi-port fuel injection, and four valves per cylinder. Sophisticated electronic controls, including electronic throttle control, assist in achieving an effective balance between performance and economy. Maximum power is 77kW @ 5800 r/min with 145 Nm of torque available at 3600 r/min. This is achieved with combined cycle fuel economy of 7,3 l/100km for the manual transmission derivative and 7,7 l/100km for the automatic.

The sporty Aveo Hatchback is offered in a range of four models with a choice of 5-speed manual transmission in “L” and “LS” and LT trim and 4-speed automatic transmission in “LS” trim. The four new 5-door hatch models join the Aveo LS and Aveo LT sedan models that are already established in the market.
Together the Aveo Sedan and Hatch provide wide coverage of the small car/entry level segment that has matured significantly in recent years with buyers demanding ever-higher levels of sophistication and overall quality.
