Motorpoint, the UK’s largest independent retailer of nearly new cars and vans, has teamed up with Maidstone Borough Council to stage a not-to-be-missed event aimed at supporting small businesses across Kent as they seek to make the transition to electric vehicles.
The Driving Forward Sustainably event is taking place at Motorpoint’s Maidstone store on the Parkwood Industrial Estate, Bircholt Road, ME15 9XY on Tuesday, February 21 between 5pm and 7pm.
Among the many highlights, experts will explain how businesses across the South and East can access grant funding of up to £10,000 to spend on electric vehicles. This funding, provided through LoCASE (Low Carbon Across the South and East) can be used by eligible businesses to purchase nearly new electric vehicles.
Speakers will include Dean Walker, Stock & Buying Director at Motorpoint, Councillor Derek Mortimer, the Mayor of Maidstone and Kathleen Browning from accountancy firm Azets who will provide guidance on what taking on a grant means for a company’s finances and how to account for it as part of their business planning. Mark Bidewell, the managing director of Bison Print will also share his experience of using the LoCASE grant to help fund his organisation’s successful transition to EV.
Mayor of Maidstone, Cllr Derek Mortimer said: “Businesses need to think sustainably, now more than ever. As a council we are committed to playing our part in becoming more climate conscious and taking action. It’s fantastic to see businesses based in Maidstone share this commitment and this event is a great opportunity to learn more and take steps to become more sustainable.”
Motorpoint Stock & Buying Director, Dean Walker said: “We are very pleased to be able to host on behalf of Maidstone Borough Council. We believe it is a genuinely valuable business-to-business event for the benefit of sole traders and SMEs across Kent and the wider South and East of England.
“Most motorists are familiar with the Motorpoint name and know us as a retailer of nearly new cars. In the current economic climate, the case for buying an immediately available, nearly new vehicle for business use rather than a brand-new vehicle is now stronger than ever. When you add to that a grant of up to £10,000 the case for a nearly new EV becomes totally compelling.”
Chris Goodison, Motorpoint’s Regional Sales Director said: “As a region we are incredibly lucky to have access to LoCASE funding. Not a lot of people know that their business can access funding of up to £10,000 to put towards the commercial cost of a nearly new electric car or van. We hope this event will change that and ensure that eligible businesses can take this opportunity to apply for the grant.
“During the event the speakers will explain the benefits to business owners of making the switch to EV as well as explain in detail how businesses can sign up to make use of this fantastic grant funding for the limited time it has left.”
There will then be a Q&A and an opportunity to network. Light refreshments will be available and there is plenty of parking on site.
