Motorpoint – the UK’s largest independent retailer of nearly new cars and vans – has appointed Mr Kalwant Singh as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO).

Kal Singh has a strong retail background and joins Motorpoint from one of the country’s best-known bed retailers, Dreams, where he spent three years as COO, responsible for supply chain, manufacturing, health & safety and trading their Feather & Black brand. Prior to this, Kal held roles with Steinhoff International as Managing Director of Harveys furniture brand as well at DHL (VP operations), building his career prior to these appointments with Home Retail Group, Yodel, Comet and Tesco’s.

In his new role, Kal will focus on driving operational performance and strengthening quality standards to ensure the Motorpoint customer experience reflects Motorpoint’s four brand pillars – quality, value, service and choice. He will be responsible for Motorpoint’s preparation teams across its preparation centres nationwide.

He will work closely with the management team to deliver greater levels of efficiency whilst maintaining the highest standards of car preparation for Motorpoint customers. His core focus is on ensuring the preparation network continues to evolve, adapt and scale itself to deal with Motorpoint’s future growth plans.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Kal Singh said: “I’ve been impressed with the culture and values of the team and how supportive everyone is to drive through positive change, coupled with their desire to succeed and be very proud of being part of the Motorpoint journey.”

The appointment follows the arrival of new Chief Digital Officer Andrew Thomson in mid 2022 and comes as Motorpoint continues to focus on building its multi-channel growth strategy.

Together, the duo further strengthens the senior management team led by CEO, Mark Carpenter.

As Motorpoint marks its 25th milestone anniversary in April 2023, Motorpoint CEO Mark Carpenter sees Singh’s appointment as critical to the success of the brand’s plans for sustained and sustainable growth.

The appointment comes just as Motorpoint is investing in the roll-out a new above-the-line ad campaign, ‘There’s No Car Like A Motorpoint Car.’

Motorpoint CEO, Mark Carpenter said: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome Kal to Motorpoint and are thrilled to have someone of his talent and calibre and with such a keen commitment to operational excellence join our team.

“This is a critical time for Motorpoint as it is for the UK automotive retail sector. The entire space in which we operate is becoming increasingly competitive and factors like the cost-of-living crisis make it even more important than ever that our customers not only have the best quality product with the promise of unbeatable prices but also have the best possible customer experience when they shop with us in-store or online.”
