Milton Keynes, UK, 19 February 2026 – Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) are proving to be more than just high-tech features in modern vans – they are a crucial safeguard for drivers on the UK’s roads. New research from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles reveals that in 2025, 45% of UK van drivers avoided at least one accident thanks to these technologies.
The survey of 1,000 UK van drivers highlights the tangible impact of ADAS in everyday driving. One in five respondents (19%) reported avoiding multiple accidents in the last year, underlining how safety assistance technology can make a real difference. Among the features drivers found most effective, parking sensors topped the list, helping 58% of those who narrowly avoided collisions. Collision warning (40%), park assist (32%), and speed assistance (27%) also proved highly valuable, while lane assist (23%), autonomous emergency braking (22%), and driver drowsiness monitoring (15%) contributed to safer journeys.
With van drivers spending an average of 5.5 hours on the road each working day, the ability to rely on safety technology is critical. The survey also showed that ADAS contributes to peace of mind, with 74% of van drivers reporting they feel safer when behind the wheel, knowing their vehicle has these systems in place.
