JOHANNESBURG – Mitsubishi Motors South Africa is set to expand its SUV lineup with the introduction of the all-new Destinator in the first half of 2026, promising to redefine family journeys with a seamless blend of style, practicality, and cutting-edge technology.
The Destinator represents Mitsubishi’s continued 2026 product offensive, combining bold SUV styling with a versatile three-row interior designed for South African families and explorers alike. With seating for seven, the second and third rows offer multiple configurations, including 40:20:40 and 50:50 splits, while 25 innovative storage compartments ensure there’s space for everything a family could need on the road.
Under the hood, the Destinator is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine delivering 120kW of power and 250Nm of torque to the front wheels via a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Drivers can choose from five driving modes, balancing performance and fuel economy, while Mitsubishi’s Active Yaw Control and other off-road technologies provide confidence across diverse road conditions and weather.
Inside, the Destinator is packed with creature comforts designed for modern lifestyles. Highlights include a panoramic sunroof, 65-colour ambient lighting, a 12.3-inch infotainment screen paired with an eight-inch digital instrument cluster, and a premium Yamaha audio system. These features combine to create a cabin that is as stylish as it is functional.
Safety remains a cornerstone of the Destinator. Equipped with the latest ADAS technology and six airbags, the SUV earned a maximum five-star rating from the 2025 ASEAN NCAP, reflecting its comprehensive protection for all occupants.
Globally, the Destinator has already been recognised for its design excellence, winning the Japanese Good Design award, a Gold award in the Best Industrial Product Design category at the VMARK Vietnam Design Awards, and Best of the Best at Indonesia’s 2025 FORWOT Car of the Year awards. Built in Mitsubishi’s Indonesian plant, which also produces the Outlander Sport and Xpander, the Destinator is designed to deliver quality, value, and reliability tailored for emerging markets including Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa.
“As part of an exclusive pre-launch campaign starting in March 2026, the first 20 customers to secure a Destinator will benefit from a special purchase price and unlock a substantial mystery prize, setting the tone for countless adventures behind the wheel of their new SUV,” says Lerato Nonyane, General Manager: Product & Marketing at Mitsubishi Motors South Africa.
Mitsubishi Motors South Africa will reveal full local specifications, model range, and pricing closer to the launch date. With its combination of practicality, technology, and award-winning design, the all-new Destinator promises to be a standout choice for South African families seeking a capable and stylish SUV.
