CIRENCESTER – Every day the staff at National Star help make a huge difference to the lives of young people with disabilities. And their job would be that much harder if it wasn’t for the fantastic fundraising that so many members of staff at Mitsubishi Motors in the UK (MMUK) head offices have been involved in since 2010.
Through the amazing efforts and dedication of all the staff at MMUK the money raised now totals £77,942 against an original target of £75,000. The money has helped the college in Ullenwood, near Cheltenham, equip one of its three amazing sensory rooms that provides a range of vital therapies for more than 200 students, aged 16 to 25.
Lance Bradley, Managing Director of Mitsubishi Motors in the UK said:
“We are proud to support and be a part of the National Star College fund raising vision. Since the early part of 2010 we have raised a staggering £77,942 towards the needed facility developments. The team at Mitsubishi will continue to generate ideas and take part in challenges to help the college raise more money for a very worthwhile cause.”
Kate Green, Director of Fundraising for National Star, said:
“These rooms provide a much needed space where we can provide a wide range of therapies tailored to their needs. While the students enjoy the activities they are a vital part to their learning process.”
The three sensory rooms are packed with light floors, bubble tubes, projectors and sound systems and can be used to stimulate or calm the students, who come from all over the country.
Kate says:
“These rooms are so beneficial because we are changing lives with them and making things happen that otherwise wouldn’t happen.
“MMUK head office staff and dealer staff have taken part in all kinds of activities to help raise money for the college, whether it’s a sponsored bike ride, baking cakes or holding a car boot sale, and it all helps.
“The college provides individualised learning to help every student realise their ambition, from learning how to use a wheelchair or preparing to live more independently.”
With cuts to funding, donations are now more important than ever.
Mrs Green said:
“We have more and more students with complex needs, such as brain injuries from accidents. While the students are funded to attend National Star that money does not extend to providing state of the art facilities.
For Mitsubishi to have been supporting the college for five years is fantastic. There are so many unsung heroes who have been doing things in their own time every year and everyone at the college is extremely grateful.”
