Chatsworth, KwaZulu-Natal – Mitsubishi Motors South Africa, in partnership with AmaZulu FC, has brought hope and excitement to the classrooms of Lamontville High School through a community-focused Back-to-School initiative. Anchored in the principles of community upliftment and stakeholder value creation, the campaign provided 30 learners from vulnerable households with essential school shoes, uniforms, and other resources to start the academic year with confidence and dignity.
This year’s initiative holds a special significance for AmaZulu FC, as Lamontville High is the alma mater of the club’s goalkeeper and Mitsubishi brand ambassador, Olwethu Mzimela. A proud son of Lamontville, Mzimela’s journey from these classrooms to professional football embodies the power of grassroots development and the importance of giving back.
The intervention saw Mitsubishi Motors South Africa, alongside AmaZulu FC, provide learners with 30 pairs of school shoes and matching uniforms. Beyond these essentials, the campaign included substantial donations of stationery to enhance classroom readiness, digital connectivity support to enable access to online learning, and soccer kits courtesy of Mitsubishi Motors Pinetown, designed to enrich sporting opportunities. BB Bakery also contributed, providing sanitary towels and baked goods, ensuring the children’s practical needs were met.
“Mitsubishi Motors values the relationships and partnerships we have. It was truly special to support AmaZulu FC and Olwethu in giving back to the community that shaped his early career,” said Takalani Bruce Mukhola, Managing Director of Mitsubishi Motors South Africa.
The handover event was a celebration of community spirit. Learners and AmaZulu players engaged in impromptu soccer games, enjoyed delicious catering, and explored the display of Mitsubishi’s Triton and Xpander vehicles, inspiring both parents and children alike.
Mzimela’s return to his former school was a powerful reminder for the learners that dreams are attainable with dedication, hard work, and humility. His presence served as both a motivational symbol and a tangible connection between community roots and professional achievement.
“We are a proud supporter of AmaZulu FC on the field and were delighted to take part in their off-pitch initiatives. This back-to-school campaign closely aligns with our own corporate social investment objectives, and we are grateful to the club for inviting us to contribute,” concluded Mukhola.
Through initiatives like these, Mitsubishi Motors South Africa and AmaZulu FC continue to demonstrate that success is measured not only in performance on the field but in the positive impact made in the communities that nurture future generations.
