The Mitsubishi Lancer 2.0 GLS sedan has been upgraded with a number of important features that provide added value to buyers without an increase in the selling price of R239 900. Among the standard features now are: Bluetooth, seven airbags, a reversing camera and touch screen to control the audio system.

There are no changes in interior or exterior appearance of the Lancer, but the extra features make it very appealing for people looking for a well-equipped five-seater car with two-litre power.

“We listened to our customers in terms of specification improvements they wanted to see on Lancer and now we are pleased that we have been able to bring a much-improved medium-size car to market in South Africa,” said the CEO of Mitsubishi Motors SA, Jaco Oosthuizen.

The Lancer shares the same platform with the iconic Evo X which has made a name for itself worldwide for both outstanding performance and a long string of victories in the World Rally Championship. The same, versatile platform also underpins the strong-selling ASX and Outlander SUVs.

The Lancer’s comprehensive list of standard equipment includes a temperature controlled air conditioner, a multi-function steering wheel which now incorporates hands-free Bluetooth voice control together with steering audio controls. Other standard features include a high resolution reversing camera, central touch screen for audio settings and a USB port. Keyless entry and an alarm-immobiliser are other standard features, with an auto-on/off feature for the headlamps.

The rear seat backrest is split 60:40 to offer versatile loading options for the spacious luggage compartment.

The 2.0litre four-cylinder engine that powers the Lancer delivers 110kW of power at 6 000r/min and 197N.m of torque at 4 200r/min. Drive is through a 5 Speed manual transmission which achieved an average of 7litres/100km during a combined cycle drive.

The front and rear independent suspension ensures good handling and road holding with a comfortable ride with attractive 16 inch alloys wheels.

Safety, as with all Mitsubishi products, is a key area for the designers and engineers. Starting with a safety cell design for the bodyshell there are now seven airbags – driver, passenger, seat, curtain and driver’s knee airbags. Other safety equipment includes anti-lock brakes, electronic brake force distribution, brake- assist and halogen headlights with front fog lamps.

Mitsubishi Lancer 2013

The Mitsubishi Lancer is covered by a 3-year/100,000km warranty and a 5-year/100,000km service plan with servicing every 15 000km.
